1 Men s Behaviour Change Program Group Facilitator Job Description Position Title: Location: Tenure: Facilitator of a Men s Behaviour Change Group Cranbourne Casual OUR ORGANISATION Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is a not-for-profit, secular community based organisation committed to enhancing the lives of families, couples, children and individuals by being a valued provider of quality specialist family services. POSITION SUMMARY Family Violence counselling and support services in Victoria are part of the State Government s integrated framework of response to family violence and comply with the No To Violence (NTV) minimum standards of quality practice. RAV is funded by the Department of Human Services (DHS) to provide quality programs including men s behaviour change groups, counselling, and support for women and families who have been affected by family violence. Service delivery must be consistent with DHS practice guidelines, and the family violence risk assessment and risk management framework. The Men s Behaviour Change Group (MBCG) Facilitator supports RAV in the delivery of these quality programs with a specific role emphasis on delivering group based programs to clients. As a member of the RAV community, it is expected that practice continually grows and develops with all members of the team working together in a collegial fashion. It is also expected that the group facilitator builds and maintains professional external relationships, as determined in collaboration with the centre manager. This may include regional family violence network meetings, meetings with DHS personnel, meetings will colleagues within RAV. REPORTING Reports to: Manages: Key internal liaison: Centre Manager and Program Coordinator Nil Centre Manager, Program Coordinator, practice leaders, other counselling and clinical staff and administration staff across RAV.
2 External Liaison: Note: Clients, relevant regional and community networks, RAV consortium program partners, professional networks, DHS. 3 1. To model the organisation s values and play a role in raising the profile of these values and associated behaviours across the organisation. This includes a positive contribution to workplace harmony displaying cooperative team behaviour. 2. Provide high quality, ethical and professional individual and group work interventions and facilitation. 3. Contribute to the ongoing development of men s behaviour change programs and their delivery within an integrated framework across RAV, including planning of content. 4. Assess client needs and provide referral where appropriate. 5. Ensure women s safety is prioritised by ensuring all clients undertake risk assessment and appropriate strategies are implemented to manage risk, increasing the accountability of people who use violence: intake and assessment as required and directed by the Centre Manager or Family Violence Co-ordinator apropos of NTV Minimum Standards. ongoing assessment of participants in regard to safety of family members and appropriate reporting where necessary ongoing contact with women and children affected by the violence of group participants facilitating behaviour change group work utilising a therapeutic / educational model where these do not conflict with NTV Minimum Standards, and integration of the group work within a holistic casework context 6. Positively contribute to RAV meeting its contractual obligations by: delivering the agreed number of programs in accordance with funding, RAV policies and protocols maintaining accurate records of client attendance, appropriate case notes and necessary forms including up to date recording of IRIS data - case notes for particular programs may require documentation of assessment, group participation and partner contact completing statutory reports in an accurate and timely manner ensuring that practice complies with appropriate policies referring or reporting serious or complex issues to the Centre Manager and maintaining critical incident and OH&S records 7. Demonstrate highly developed skills in: group work with men who have engaged in family violence engaging and supporting women and children who are or who have been victims of family violence assessment (including diagnostic and therapeutic) of clients 8. Maintain positive collegiate relationships with the Centre Manager and colleagues, reporting relevant issues and contributing to a professional and harmonious workplace: participate in professional development activities and regular peer supervision, support and debriefing of facilitators, guest speakers and observers where required to ensure ongoing quality improvement, engaging in performance planning and review in line with the RAV procedures 9. Demonstrate ability to be reflective about the work, in particular how the work is having an impact on self as a practitioner. 10. Offer, and respond appropriately to client satisfaction processes. 11. To build and maintain quality assurance processes. 12. Foster good working relationships with relevant external agencies and professionals and actively promote RAV s programs to external stakeholders e.g. police, Courts, referral agencies. 13. Ensure contemporary knowledge of relevant government policy at the local, state and federal levels particularly in relation to family violence. 14. You may be required to perform additional duties from time to time.
4 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA The recruiting panel will need to feel confident that the successful candidate will understand the organisational values, integrate the values into their work and demonstrate behaviours that reflect the values. Able to manage a complex case load, providing appropriate case notes and records, cognisant of, and compliant with, contractual obligations, organisational requirements and legislative requirements. Able to complete crisis/ safety assessments. Communication able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, to develop and maintain professional relationships and share concepts, information and ideas successfully. Able to report succinctly and accurately. Client Service able to understand complex and diverse clients and ensure equitable, responsive and quality service to all. Able to work with mandated clients. Self awareness able to understand self, to appreciate difference and to build sustainable professional relationships with stakeholders at various levels, encouraging and supporting workplace harmony. Flexibility able to continuously develop and work successfully in a changing environment, accept new challenges and continually strive for improvement. 6 Contractual and Financial Maintain accurate records of client attendance in diary Maintain appropriate case notes for clients Complete necessary forms to ensure adequate client records can be maintained Close cases in a timely manner and in accordance with organisational procedures Report regularly to the manager on issues that impact on the position Complete the required statutory reports in an accurate and timely manner Ensure that clinical practice complies with appropriate policies and legislation relevant to the position (eg. NTV standards, mandatory reporting, professional code of ethics) Complete IRIS data in a timely fashion Individual activities: Be responsive to the requests of administration staff regarding contact with external clients and the RAV administrative processes Ensure responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the manager and clinical staff within the organisation to facilitate the achievement of the objectives of the position Contribute to a healthy work and organisational culture that enhances professional practice. Contribute to the status of RAV in the professional and client communities in relation to our field of expertise Manage individual caseload and day-to-day work practices in order to achieve the objectives of the position Make professional decisions regarding the practice of group work using judgement based upon sound knowledge, training, experience whilst utilising a feminist framework Make professional decisions about clinical matters, starting with the assessment of new cases leading through the clinical process and ending with completion of group work and obtaining client feedback and closing the case Team activities: Complete administrative tasks to enable reception and other staff to fulfil their duties Engage in performance planning and review in line with the RAV procedures Contribute to the ongoing professional development and implementation of RAV s Certified Agreement Supervise and appraise the work of students placed with the organisation, as required Participate in professional development activities and weekly peer supervision Actively contribute to the weekly meetings and peer supervision Organisational activities: Contribute to the development of strategic and operational plans for the counselling service and organisation as a whole Contribute to the development of a strategic and operational plan for the provision of counselling services at the centre Contribute to the development of appropriate operational policies and procedures and working within these
