1 Barney s Quick Filter Wizard by Barney Stne Sftware Barney s Quick Filter Wizard is an add-n prgram fr the Mnsn Stne Edge rder management system (frmerly called the Stne Edge Order Manager). The Quick Filter Wizard makes it easy t create custm Quick Filters and Quick Filter menus fr each f yur Stne Edge users. Once the Wizard is installed, it can be accessed via the Stne Edge Main Menu. The Quick Filter Wizard is available in tw editins. The Standard Editin will nly wrk with Micrsft Access data files, such as thse created by the Standard Editin f Mnsn Stne Edge. The Enterprise Editin is required fr use with the Micrsft SQL Server data files that are used by the Enterprise Editin f Mnsn Stne Edge. Sectin 1: Installing the Quick Filter Wizard 1. Dwnlad the installer prgram frm Barney Stne Sftware and save it n ne f the cmputers that yu use t run Mnsn Stne Edge. 2. Get everyne ut f the Mnsn Stne Edge prgram, and any ther prgrams that use Stne Edge s data files. 3. Open the installer prgram that yu dwnladed frm Barney Stne Sftware. The fllwing menu will appear: 4. Click the Begin buttn t install the Wizard. Prgress infrmatin will appear at the bttm f the frm n yur screen. 5. When the Dne! message appears n yur screen, click OK t exit the Installer. 6. 2 The Special Functin Menu Mnsn Stne Edge can be cnfigured t add an ptin t its Main Menu, and t pen a custm frm when that ptin is clicked. Hwever, it is limited t a single custm frm, and many users need mre than that. We created the Special Functin Menu t slve that prblem. The Special Functin Menu is included at n additinal charge with all Barney Stne Sftware add-n prgrams. It can be used fr any Barney Stne Sftware prducts that yu purchase, plus yur wn custm frms and functins. It currently supprts up t 10 buttns, each f which can pen a frm r call a custm functin. An example f the Special Functin Menu, with tw Barney Stne Sftware prducts installed: When yu install the Quick Filter Wizard, the installer will als install the Special Functin Menu. It will set Stne Edge s system parameter called SpecialMenu t BS Special Functin Menu, which is als hw the ptin will appear n the Main Menu. The installer will add a buttn t the Special Functin Menu t pen the Quick Filter Wizard. If yu are already using the SpecialMenu ptin t pen a custm frm, the installer will autmatically create the necessary buttn t pen that frm, t. If the Special Functin Menu was installed previusly, the installer will just add a new buttn fr the Quick Filter Wizard. Mst users will nt have t mdify the Special Functin Menu. If yu wuld like t add yur wn buttns t the Special Functin Menu, change the menu title, create custm menus fr different Stne Edge users, r cntrl which f the three buttns appear at the bttm f the menu, click here fr mre infrmatin. 3 Sectin 2: Basic Infrmatin abut the Quick Filter Wizard Each Mnsn Stne Edge user can have their wn list f custm Quick Filters. The Quick Filter Wizard replaces the regular list f Quick Filters at all screens where they nrmally are available (View Orders, Multi Order View, Search fr Orders, etc.). If a user des nt have any Quick Filters assigned in the Wizard, they will see Stne Edge s nrmal list f Quick Filters. Unlike Stne Edge s limited Custm Quick Filters, which appear at the end f the regular list f Quick Filters, the Wizard s Quick Filters nly include thse standard filters that yu decide t include, and yu have cmplete cntrl ver the rder in which the filters appear. Due t the nature f Quick Filters, which use SQL select statements that must be written in a frm that the Order Manager can use, they can be difficult t write. The Wizard has several tls that make it easy t create and test Quick Filters withut having t master SQL select statements. An added feature f the Wizard is that filters can include fields that yu enter each time yu use them (similar t parameter queries in Access). Fr example, if yu frequently search fr rders that include a certain SKU, but each time it may be a different SKU, yu culd create a custm Quick Filter that wuld ask fr the SKU t search fr each time yu use it. Sectin 3: Starting the Quick Filter Wizard Once the Quick Filter Wizard has been installed, the Mnsn Stne Edge Main Menu shuld include an ptin fr the BS Special Functin Menu. 4 In Versin 7 and later: When yu click n that link, the Special Functin Menu will appear: The actual frmat f the menu may differ frm the abve example. The menu title, the number, rder and labels n the buttns, including which buttns appear at the bttm f the menu, are all cnfigurable. See Cnfiguring the Special Functin Menu fr mre infrmatin. 5 The Quick Filter Wizard Screen There are tw tabs n the Quick Filter Wizard screen: Create Filters this is where yu d mst f the wrk, creating and testing Quick Filters. Arrange Filters this tab is used fr: Setting the rder in which filters appear when yu see a list f Quick Filters. Deleting quick filters frm lists. 6 Sectin 4: Creating Quick Filters There are several ways t create the SQL select statements that are used fr Quick Filters. The end result always appears in the SQL Select Statement windw, where yu can review and edit it. In additin, the Selected Orders windw in the lwer right-hand crner f the screen will shw yu which rders the current select statement wuld include. Entering SQL Select Statements Manually In the SQL Select Statements windw, type the fllwing: Press TAB r Enter when yu are dne. The list f Selected Orders will shw yu the rders that yu have received in the last 7 days. Using the Wizard s Shrtcuts Nte the list labeled Data t Filter. That list includes fields that are cmmnly used fr Quick Filters. Select Apprved at the tp f the list. Nte the Value t Lk Fr, which nw has Yes and N ptins. 7 Select the N ptin, then click Add t SQL Select Statement. Nte that the Apprved ptin is added t the cde yu entered befre, and that statements are separated with blank line t make them easier t read. Once the SQL select statement appears n yur screen, yu can edit it as needed. Select Backrders in the Data t Filter List. Nte that there is nw a list f ptins t chse frm. Select the Nne ptin, then click Add t SQL Select Statement Nte that the prgram cntinues t add t yur select statement. In the Data t Filter list, select SKU near the bttm f the list, then select Begins With under SKU t lk fr. Nte the new SKU field that appears. Sme ptins frm Data t Filter require yu t enter additinal infrmatin, such as a SKU r a number f days, mnths r years. Enter ABC in the SKU field, then click Add t SQL Select Statement. 8 Nte that this time the SQL cde that was added was mre cmplicated. Since yu are using the Quick Filter Wizard, yu dn t have t write that cde yurself the Wizard des it fr yu! Using Other Quick Filters T use the cde frm an existing filter, select ne frm the list f Standard Filters: Or select ne frm the list f Custm Filters: The Custm Filters list nly shws the quick filters that have been assigned t the current User. The SQL cde fr the selected filter will appear n yur screen, where yu can edit it as needed. T cpy a quick filter frm anther user: Select that User frm the list at the tp f the screen. 9 Using the Search fr Orders frm Smetimes the easiest way t create a filter, r t start the cde fr a filter, is t use Stne Edge s regular Search fr Orders screen, where yu can enter whatever cmbinatin f selectin criteria yu need all at nce. Click Open the Search Frm in the lwer left-hand crner f the screen. The regular Search fr Orders screen will appear. Enter any cmbinatin f search criteria, then click the Begin Search buttn. Since there is already text in the SQL Select Statement, the prgram will ask if yu want t add the new criteria t the existing text, r replace it. Once the SQL select statement appears n yur screen, yu can edit it as needed. Previewing Selected Orders As yu create and/r edit a SQL select statement, the prgram will display sme r all f the rders that wuld be selected by that statement. T prevent the preview frm taking t much time, the default is t limit the selectin t the last 1,000 rders. In ther wrds, the prgram will first select the last 1,000 rders, then apply yur SQL select statement t thse rders. T remve that limitatin and apply yur criteria t all f the rders in yur data, un-check the Limit t the mst recent 1,000 rders ptin. Barney s Quick Filter Wizard 2013 Barney Stne Sftware. 10 The default view is a list that displays multiple rders at a time, with ne rw per rder. T view the same list, but ne rder at a time, including sme line item infrmatin abut the rders, select the Detailed View ptin. The recrds will nw appear in this frmat: Saving Quick Filters When yu have a filter wrking the way yu want it: Make sure that the crrect User is selected frm the drp-dwn list at the tp f the screen. 11 Parameter Queries Parameter queries let yu stre a SQL select statement, but fill in ne r mre pieces f infrmatin when yu use it. Fr example, if yu frequently search fr rders by SKU, yu can create a Quick Filter that will ask yu which SKU t search fr each time yu use that filter. T create a parameter query: Enter the SQL select statement using ne r mre f the methds described abve. Replace the data t search fr (e.g. a specific SKU) with [Enter xxxxx], where xxxxx is a prmpt that yu will see n yur screen. Be sure t include any necessary punctuatin arund the [Enter xxxxx]. Fr example, if yu will be entering text, yu must have apstrphes (single qutes) befre and after the brackets ( [ ] ), like this: Examples: [Enter the SKU t search fr] T find rders frm the last n days, enter the fllwing: OrderDate > Date()-[Enter # f days t lk back] When yu use a Quick Filter with that cde, the prgram will display this message every time yu use that filter: T search fr rders that include a specified SKU, enter: OrderNumber IN(SELECT OrderNumber FROM [Order Details] WHERE SKU= '[Enter a SKU]') This message will appear when yu use the filter: Barney s Quick Filter Wizard 2013 Barney Stne Sftware. 12 T find rders that include prducts whse names begin with the same letters, enter: OrderNumber IN(SELECT OrderNumber FROM [Order Details] WHERE prduct like '[Enter prduct prefix]*') This is the prmpt yu will see: Yu can use multiple parameters in the same filter. 13 Sectin 5: Arranging Quick Filter Lists Use the Arrange Filters tab t: Set the rder in which filters appear in a user s list. Delete a filter frm their list Add standard Stne Edge Order Manager filters t their list. NOTE: Changes made n this tab take effect immediately. Yu d nt have t click a Save buttn r anything like that. Arranging the rder f filters in a list Select the User whse list yu want t arrange. That user s list f filters will appear. Select a filter by clicking anywhere n its rw. Click the Up Arrw t mve the selected filter up in the list. Click the Dwn Arrw t mve the selected filter dwn in the list. Changes made here take effect immediately. Deleting filters frm a list Select the User whse list yu want t arrange. That user s list f filters will appear.
