I past ad eve today there are used had held desitometers, spectrofotometers or scaig desitometers ad scaig spectrofotometers to quatify the actual pritig situatio i terms of solid desity, dot gai, balace, trappig, CIEL*a*b*, CIEL*Ch etc. O oe had a high quality productio process owadays is essetial to compete o the pritig market, especially o markets with high volume (packagig, labels, high volume commercial pritig). O the other had the improvemet of quality reduces costs i terms of wastage, time, image, complaits. Hadheld desitometers ad spectrofotometers as well as press exteral scaig devices are a good solutio, but they will ot be suitable for ay situatio. The quality cotrol eed a perso who is takig the readigs or operatig the scaig device. ICMD is a O-lie desitometer ad goes beyod hadheld ad scaig solutio due to the followig applicatios: Web to Web: A Web to Web pritig process does ot allow to take measuremets with exteral measuremet devices without stoppig the press, cuttig out a piece of paper ad restartig the press. This is a very iefficiet way of quality cotrol ud the oly practicable solutio is a O-lie Desitometer or Spectrofotometer. Web to foldig: The locatio of colour problems o ik key based presses ca ot be idetified o multi-up jobs after cuttig, foldig ad die-cuttig. Therefore the measuremets have to be take somewhere before. Normally it is ot possible to get a sheet out of the pritig process road o the way without stoppig the press. The oly possibility is to measure O-Lie Sheet fed: Hadheld Spectro-desitometers ad scaig Spectro-desitometers are basically adequate for the quality cotrol o sheet fed presses. A O-lie system like the ICMD could make the quality cotrol more efficiet: the operator does ot eed to walk back ad forwards betwee press ad cotrol cosole to take sheets, more sheets (ay) could be measured with a O-lie system, the cotrol itervals are shorter, operatio errors ca be avoided. 3 Automatio takes place i ay techical productio process ad the ICMD is a basic compoet for the fully automated pritig road. 3 icmd System 3.1 Key items The FLASH2 is a ilie Spectrodesitometer desiged to be embedded ito offset, flexo ad gravure presses. icmd is a complete system with easy hardware ad software iterface feasible for OEM ad upgrade busiess icmd has high speed sesors coformig to DIN , Asi Status I, Reflectio with polarisatio filter, 45 /0 geometry, CMYK Possible press speed > 16m/sec. Competitive price 3.2 Customizatio FAG offers FLASH2 as a complete system with a simple, well defied mechaical, electrical ad commuicatio iterface (TCP/IP UDP, RS232). The FLASH cotroller is the uique iterface betwee the icmd O-lie Spectro-desitometer ad the operator (PC). 4 system like umber of cotrol patches per ik key zoe, trigger mark cofiguratio, sheet legth, etc. The icmd cotroller maages the auto cofiguratio, such as there ca be removed, added, or replaced oe sigle module (Trigger, Referece head, or desitometer) without the eed of exteral cofiguratio. A simple RESET of the system will auto-cofigure the system. The auto cofiguratio fuctioality is essetial to eable the customer to replace a faulty module by himself. Errors durig cofiguratio ca be avoided ad the mea time to repair ca be reduce. The icmd cotroller collects trigger data, the referece data, ad the measuremet data, evaluates the data, applies a patch recogitio ad reports sheet umber, press speed, cross speed, cross positio, ad measuremet data to the PC. Oe icmd cotroller uit ca hadle two FLASH lies, face ad back pritig with up to 24 desitometers each. The trigger uit fids the measuremet positio directly o the prit without ay agle ecoder with a accuracy of 0.1mm o a rage of 5xTrigger mark size. This uit makes the icmd flexible for the moutig positio. The flexibility is essetial for the upgrade busiess because there are may differet types of presses istalled ad ay press has its optimal measuremet positio i terms of space, eviromet parameters, temperature, wet or dry ik, dust etc. The measuremet positio o the sheet o grai ca vary absolutely by the sheet legth from job to job ad 2mm durig the ru of off the press. The trigger mark ca be cofigured ad is part of the cotrol strip over the cross motio area of the trigger uit. The desitometer is a complete uit with 3 ANSI Status I glass iterferece filters (430m, 530m, 610m, 20m width each, black calculated by applicatio of the V-lambda curve), with polarisatio filter ad a 45 /0 geometry. It is coform to the DIN requiremets. The referece head is maufactured equal to the Desitometer ad has a ceramic white plaque mouted as measuremet patch. It measures the spectral variatios of the flash. The FLASH uit illumiates via fiber optics the measuremet patch triggered by the Trigger uit. The positioig device is composed by a beam with two suspesios, oe drive by a servo motor, oe freewheel ad a servo motor cotrol device. Mechaical parts for moutig ad aligmet. The parts are developed ad customized by VIPTONIC ad eed to guaratee a correct aligmet iside the press. The icmd modules eed to be cleaed, replaced etc. by oe sigle operator. 5 The Applicatio Software eables the customer to check the actual press situatio ad to documet the job. It cotais the followig fuctios: A Job database cotaiig a simple customer database, job parameters, ad job measuremet data. The job database iterface maages the isertio of referece values ad toleraces, the restart of the measuremets storage after the setup time, ad reports ad pritouts of measuremet data. Visualizatio of the actual measuremets as Desity/Ik key (Bar diagram), Statistic/Ik key (Box plots), Tred/Ik key ad Table of Desity umbers.
