1 BalletBoyz Ltd Once again Nunn and Trevitt are ahead of the game The Observer BalletBoyz Ltd was founded in 2001 by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, ex- lead dancers with the Royal Ballet. In 2005 the Company became a Regularly Funded Organisation with Arts Council England, London and an Associate Company at Sadler s Wells. In 2011 the company became an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation. The company has enjoyed a hugely successful track record in live performance, touring nationally and internationally to popular and critical acclaim. Since 2009 the Company has developed The TALENT, an all male group of, currently, ten dancers. Now in its fifth season, The TALENT continues to break down barriers to dance and attract new audiences. BalletBoyz Ltd is also known for the design and delivery of ground- breaking learning and participation initiatives working with young people, especially boys, from a range of backgrounds. Since December 2012 the Company has had its own permanent studio premises in Kingston Upon Thames providing state of the art rehearsal space, offices and editing facilities. BalletBoyz are now looking for a dynamic individual to oversee and develop the exciting range of Learning and Participation projects that the company offers. Principal is our brand new and innovative on- line Digital Dance Platform that will enable schools to access bespoke teaching films and materials as well as stream live workshops and rehearsals direct from the Company s studio base. The Creative Learning Producer will need to take up the reins of this new initiative and have the confidence to drive it forward to fully realise its potential. The role will also be responsible for overseeing our successful Dancer s Course, now entering its third year (a pre- professional weekend taught training course of 3 ten- week terms for male and female dancers who wish to pursue a career in dance), a new therapeutic dance class for people with Parkinson s Parkinson s Can Dance - which is the latest addition to a series of community dance classes for all ages that we run from our studios in Kingston. The Creative Learning Producer is a new, full time post and the successful candidate will need to be able to prioritise a varied workload and excel in a flexible and fast paced environment. Equally at home briefing education specialists and teachers as well as brokering partnerships with schools and learning organisations, the post holder will require proven project management skills, entrepreneurial flair and the ability to maximise opportunities.
2 CREATIVE LEARNING PRODUCER Responsible to: Responsible for: Objective: Artistic Directors / Executive Director Freelance education specialists, workshop leaders, artists, teachers, etc. A creative role responsible for building revenue opportunities from the Company s Learning and Participation Programme and specifically the development and delivery of the new Digital Dance Platform which will account for 3 days of the working week. Key Responsibilities PROJECT MANAGEMENT In liaison with the Artistic Directors develop the overall programme of Learning and Participation for BalletBoyz Oversee all aspects of project management for the various elements of the organisation s Learning and Participation Programme Liaise with and manage a variety of freelance staff and external agencies (freelance education consultant, sales, website design, film and post- production etc) in relation to management of Digital Dance Platform, Dancer s Course, etc. Work in partnership with Education Consultants to create a curriculum, incorporating input from schools for the Digital Dance Platform Oversee the filming and post- production (alongside the Artistic Directors) of materials for the Digital Dance Platform library and streamed events Co- ordinate the Parkinson s Can Dance timetable and oversee the planning of cultural visits by the participants and build relationships with partner organisations and venues In liaison with the Artistic Directors and Dancer s Course Directors research and design term content and maintain overview of the Course Liaise with the General Manager to ensure efficient management of the studio class diary FINANCE Liaise with the Executive Director to manage assigned budgets effectively Negotiate financial arrangements with freelance staff, artists, contractors and companies as required Work with an external sales partners to maximise revenue- raising opportunities relating to the Digital Dance Platform Liaise closely with the Development Director to identify and develop opportunities for fundraising relating to Learning and Participation Programme PROMOTION AND ADVOCACY Foster partnerships and networks locally, nationally and internationally to assist with the development of the Learning and Participation Programme Maximise audience development potential of the Learning and Participation Programme Promote and manage the widespread use of the Digital Dance Platform, working with a number of teaching professionals and agencies
3 In liaison with the Executive Director and General Manager ensure the effective marketing and promotion of the Dancer s Course to ensure participant targets and income are met Update and maintain the Company database of schools, partners and agencies Attend relevant networking events, conferences, etc. MONITORING AND EVALUATION Monitor and evaluate the Company s Learning and Participation output in order to improve content and delivery Prepare statistics and reports as required on Learning and Participation activity for funders and other related stakeholders Ensure clear communications between organisation departments to encourage information sharing and efficiency GENERAL Maintain an awareness of and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and good practice relating to health and safety, child protection and working in formal education and with young people In liaison with the General Manager review and ensure compliance with the company s Child Protection Policy Always act in the best interest of BalletBoyz Undertake any other duties that may be required of the Creative Learning Producer THIS JOB DESCRIPTION IS A GUIDE TO THE NATURE OF THE WORK REQUIRED FOR THE POST. 4 Person specification The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills, experience and personal qualities: Essential A forward- thinking and entrepreneurial approach Proven event/project management skills including planning, scheduling, delivery and evaluation ideally, in an arts environment Experience of basic financial planning and managing budgets Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to adapt working style to people/groups from different environments (arts, film, education and sales) Strong administrative and organisational skills Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (please note that the company uses Macs) Experience of website content management Excellent communication/literacy excellent written and verbal English. Experience of document and report writing The ability to work under pressure, manage time and prioritise workload A high degree of self- motivation and the ability to work flexibly as part of a small team Desirable Experience of line- managing freelancers and volunteers Existing networks and links with schools, colleges and local education authorities and other education contacts Experience of workshop/training delivery A knowledge of dance and BalletBoyz work in particular Experience of film and television
5 Terms: Salary: Working Hours: Fixed term contract initially for 12 months (with potential extension by another 24 months). 28,000-30,000 per annum depending on experience, on a PAYE basis 40 hours per week; may include some evenings and weekend working. Overtime is not payable although time off in lieu may be agreed. Probationary Period: The post is subject to a 3 month probationary period, after which a performance appraisal will be conducted. Confirmation of post will depend on the outcome of the appraisal. Annual Leave: Place of work: Notice Period: 25 days per annum (plus designated bank holidays) to be taken by mutual arrangement The post is based at BalletBoyz studios in Kingston Upon Thames but some travel and working away from the office may be required During the probationary period, the notice period will be 2 weeks on either side.
