The Mossbourne Federation comprises four academies: Mossbourne Community Academy (secondary) Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy (secondary) Mossbourne Parkside Academy (primary) Mossbourne Riverside Academy (primary) Across the four academies operates a Central Services Directorate which supports all the academies delivering services such as estates, facilities, security, ICT, and telecommunications management, together with corporate communications, human resource and finance functions. The HR Department and the HR Officer Role The HR department consists of a group of HR professionals working together to deliver a comprehensive range of human resources services at each Federation Academy. This includes the provision of a high standard management and operational HR activities: Support the HR strategy including policy development/review and implement changes as a result of employment legislation Statutory returns and reporting, such as single central record, school workforce census Sickness and absence (monitoring and managing) Disciplinary, capability and grievance issues Staff appraisal and training Large volumes of regular recruitment and selection (including vetting and safeguarding checks) This list is not exclusive. 2 The HR Officer Role The post holder will work as a part of a close-knit multi-functional professional team which has to operate flexibly to meet pressured and complex demands. Working to the Head of HR but in close cooperation with other members of the HR and Finance teams, the post holder will be supporting the recruitment, induction processes for all the Academies in the Federation and aid the delivery of an effective and efficient operational HR service. Key Accountabilities The post holder s key responsibilities are, but not limited to: Provide an advisory service to the Senior Leadership Team, line managers and employees on all human relations issues. Assist with the recruiting and selecting of staff including, organising interviews through to the administration of bringing in the new employee, including induction and INST days. Responsible for actioning Data Barring Service requirements and maintaining the Single Central Record. Management of fixed term contracts, staff handbook, policy update and training plans. In conjunction with the Head of HR ensure that payroll is advised of any pay changes such as ensuring starters and leavers are notified, maternity and paternity leave cases etc. nsuring all staff records and staff information on storage systems are accurate, updated promptly and maintained in a confidential manner, complying with Data Protection Act and working with the Data Manager in completing workforce census accurately and on time. Together with other staff, undertaking the office administration as is required for a small busy function including the transfer of information into a new HR and payroll software system. Advising staff on appropriate staff development programmes (Non-teaching). Monitoring staff attendance, in line with Federation policies and procedures, including supporting line managers in conducting absence management meetings and coaching line managers in absence procedures. Carry out exit interviews and ensure that leavers are processed accurately. Complete reference requests prior to SLT approval. Assist the HR Operational team in monitoring the probation process, supporting managers and producing letters. Actioning family friendly policies and benefits such as maternity, paternity, adoption, childcare vouchers, cycle to work scheme etc. Assist the Data Manager in providing required statutory workforce census data accurately and on time. nsure that risk assessments are carried out promptly and are monitored accurately. nsure the correct vetting checks are carried out for all third party workers and that the disclaimer process is adhered to. Pre-employment and safeguarding checks for new starters. nsuring that they are DBS cleared and have the correct Right to Work. Recruiting and selecting staff including the production of job descriptions, placing adverts, Page 2 of 5

3 organising interviews through to the administration of bringing in the new employee, including actioning Data Barring Service requirements. Managing links arrangements with external employment agencies and temporary staffing agencies. Writing various staff communications including contracts, staff memos, issuing written offers of employment, contract variations, promotion etc. ensuring accuracy and appropriateness. Keeping up to date with employment law and Academy policy and applying provisions regarding (for example) working conditions, disciplinary and grievance procedures, equal opportunities, benefits, parental leave rights. Arranging occupational health and counselling facilities where required. 4 Qualifications CIPD qualified Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (or working towards this) IT knowledge D Must be adept in Microsoft Office (xcel, Word, Publisher & PowerPoint) and preferably with experience of a proprietary HR software program D Ability to swiftly adapt to and utilise new/various systems/software Behavioural Competencies xcellent analytical and multidimensional communication skills D Strategic approach, ability to see the big picture and also think outside of the box Ability to meet ALL deadlines internally and externally ensuring output consistently is of an exemplary standard Must have the upmost integrity as well as high levels of motivation and commitment Proactive approach and efficient time management and prioritisation skills Genuine interest and passion for the education of young people and the ability to contribute more widely to the life and community of the Federation Applicable to all staff Undertake training as required to so in order to fulfil the requirements of the role Support Mossbourne s efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e. Via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with Mossbourne s initiatives and findings Recognise your role as part of Page 4 of 5
