2 2 Basic Cmputing COURSE DESCRIPTION This curse is designed fr students wh have little r n backgrund in cmputing and wh need t gain basic practical skills in cmputing. Thrugh practical experience, students develp basic skills and cnfidence in dealing with cmmn infrmatin technlgies, and understand their applicatin and implicatin in wrk, leisure and cmmunicatin. RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS This curse requires learners t have access t: cmputers (desk and/r laptps) with cnnectin t the internet and ; hardware apprpriate t simple tasks in everyday adult settings, including the wrkplace (such as a printer and strage devices); and sftware apprpriate t simple tasks in everyday adult settings, including the wrkplace (such as a wrd prcessr, spread sheet and simple graphics applicatin). Additinal resurces may be required depending n prvider-selected learning tasks (see Curse Cntent belw). 3 3 Basic Cmputing COURSE SIZE AND COMPLEXITY This curse a cmplexity level f TQA level 1. At TQA level 1, the learner is expected t carry ut tasks and activities that will draw n an apprpriate range f basic knwledge and skills. The tasks and activities generally have a substantial repetitive aspect t them. Minimum judgement is needed as there are usually very clear rules, guidelines r prcedures t be fllwed. VET cmpetencies at this level are ften thse characteristic f an AQF Certificate I. This curse has a size value = 10. COURSE CONTENT This curse has tw parts bth are cmpulsry. Part B may be delivered and assessed within the cntext f practical tasks undertaken in Part A, as standalne tasks, r a mixture f bth appraches. PART A: Students will undertake a range f simple, practical tasks in rder t develp and demnstrate their knwledge, understanding and skills in: identifying simple tasks in everyday adult settings, including the wrkplace, and identifying apprpriate digital technlgy fr a specific task interpreting simple infrmatin and terminlgy t access and use digital technlgy fllwing prcedures, specificatins and/r directins and use digital technlgies t successfully cmplete simple tasks in everyday adult settings, including the wrkplace reviewing their perfrmance in cmpleted tasks. In cnstructing simple learning tasks t be undertaken by students the prvider will ensure that tasks prvide pprtunities fr students t develp and demnstrate their knwledge, understanding and skills in: identifying and fllwing given guidelines/prcedures relating t the access and use f cmputers and ther digital technlgies including: all prvider-prescribed ccupatinal/wrkplace health and safety prcedures (e.g. keybard hygiene, trip hazards) simple ergnmics (e.g. sitting crrectly at a cmputer desk hw and why) the physical learning envirnment (e.g. eating/drinking rules) identifying ptential dangers in revealing persnal infrmatin (such as cntact details r credit card/bank accunt infrmatin) when using , the internet and scial media (e.g. harassment, cyber bullying, credit card infrmatin theft) identifying ptential ways f intrducing malware t a cmputer (e.g. pening an attachment n an unslicited may intrduce a virus). 5 5 Basic Cmputing ASSESSMENT Criterin-based assessment is a frm f utcmes assessment that identifies the extent f student achievement at an apprpriate end-pint f study. Althugh assessment as part f the learning prgram is cntinuus, much f it is frmative, and is dne t help students identify what they need t d t attain the maximum benefit frm their study f the curse. Therefre, assessment fr summative reprting t the TQA will fcus n what bth teacher and student understand t reflect end-pint achievement. The standard f achievement each student attains n each criterin is recrded as a rating f C (satisfactry standard), accrding t the utcmes specified in the standards sectin f the curse dcument. A t ntatin must be used where a student demnstrates any achievement against a criterin less than the standard specified fr the C rating. A z ntatin is t be used where a student prvides n evidence f achievement at all. Prviders ffering this curse must participate in the quality assurance prcesses. Internal assessment f all criteria will be made by the prvider. Assessment prcesses must gather evidence that clearly shws the match between individual student perfrmance, the standards f the curse and the student s award. Prviders will reprt the student s rating fr each criterin t the Tasmanian Qualificatins Authrity. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROCESSES The fllwing prcess will be facilitated by the TQA t ensure there is: a match between the standards f achievement specified in the curse and the skills and knwledge demnstrated by learners cmmunity cnfidence in the integrity and meaning f the qualificatin. Prcess The TQA will verify that the prvider s curse delivery and assessment standards meet the curse requirements and cmmunity expectatins fr fairness, integrity and validity f qualificatins the Authrity issues. This will invlve checking: student attendance recrds; and curse delivery plans (the sequence f curse delivery/tasks and when assessments take place): assessment instruments and rubrics (the rules r marking guide used t judge achievement) class recrds f assessment examples f student wrk that demnstrate the use f the marking guide samples f current student s wrk, including that related t any wrk requirements articulated in the curse dcument. This prcess may als include interviews with past and present students. It will be scheduled by the TQA using a risk-based apprach.
