We collaborate with government, non-government and community partners to work with children, adults, families and communities to improve lives and realise potential, with a focus on breaking, rather than managing, disadvantage. Primary purpose of the role Provide professional speech pathology supports to people with disability, their families and carers to improve their quality of life and participation in the community. The Grade 3 speech pathologist also provides professional supervision and facilitates development programs that assist staff to enhance quality speech pathology standards. Key accountabilities Provide professional supervision to Grade 1/2 speech pathologist/s and support other staff to ensure appropriate and high quality supports are delivered consistent with the relevant legislative framework, guidelines, principles and professional and ethical requirements. Provide speech pathology supports including assessment, planning, intervention, program development, monitoring and review in line with relevant legislative, professional and ethical requirements. Review and evaluate the speech pathology activities of the team, in conjunction with the Manager Access to ensure quality, outcome focused supports are delivered. 1

2 Establish, develop and maintain strong collaborative external relationships with public sector agencies, non-government organisations, private practitioners and community groups to facilitate person-centred outcomes. Identify and make recommendations on professional practice improvements and speech pathology systems in order to inform policy and procedural change. Utilize organizational client information and communication systems to maintain current and accurate records in compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. Provide expert advice, reports, correspondence, briefing notes or submissions in order to inform senior management of complex or critical speech pathology issues. Facilitate student placement programs and support speech pathologist/s who are supervising students on placement in accordance with the professional supervision requirements of the tertiary bodies. Key challenges Providing professional supervision in a time of change, working within a new and evolving system. Providing good practice standards of speech pathology supports with available resources in a dynamic environment with changing funding and service delivery requirements. Balancing the competing priorities of person-centred work, administrative tasks and coaching and mentoring of the speech pathology team. Maintaining an up to date knowledge of a wide range of relevant policies, practices and statutory requirements. 3 Role dimensions Decision making The speech pathologist Grade 3: Determines the most appropriate intervention strategies and designs a program of support for people with disability with complex needs, incorporating more specialized and complex intervention strategies. Provides advice and guidance to Grade 1/2 speech pathologist/s on intervention and programs development issues that ensure consistency with evidence based speech pathology practice. Makes recommendations to the Grade 4 speech pathologist and/ or Manager Access on planning and development activities. Identifies where care and support issues should be prioritized/ escalated/ allocated.
