1 JOB DESCRPTON Post Title: Student Liaison Officer Post Grade/Salary: This is a Business Support appointment at fixed point 16 Responsible to: Terms and Conditions: Head of Student Services/CS / Student Liaison Team Leader The College uses a standard contract for Business Support appointments The information given below is intended to provide an understanding and appreciation of the workload of the job and its role within RCAT. The job description outlines the main duties and responsibilities in general terms only and is not intended to be prescriptive. As a member of the Student Services and Marketing Unit, the post holder will be expected to work in a flexible, proactive manner and carry out such duties as are necessary to ensure the effective delivery of student advice services. Main Purpose of the Post To be a member of the student liaison team involved in the recruitment and support of students to promote participation, aid efficient transitions and provide on programme support that promotes positive engagement and the achievement of key college performance indicators. To take the lead on a designated aspect of the team s service and support colleagues in the achievement of departmental objectives To provide appropriate support to students at risk of non completion or achievement To provide support to teaching staff in the achievement of Every Child Matters outcomes for students To liaise effectively with designated schools to promote the college and effect successful transitions for students To provide information and guidance to groups about the college offer and support available To support the effective admission of students. To provide impartial guidance to individuals

2 Range of Duties 1. To liaise effectively with designated schools to promote the college offer and to plan effective transitions. 2. To plan and deliver activities and attend school events as required to achieve the above 3. To monitor attendance and retention and to liaise effectively with academic staff in designated departments to manage student attendance to promote continued participation. 4. To liaise effectively with academic staff in designated departments to provide appropriate student support for at risk learners and to refer them for specialist assistance as required 5. To liaise effectively with academic staff in designated departments to provide tutorial or cross college input on Every Child Matters Themes. 6. To take the lead in one of the following team responsibilities o Every Child Matters Themes and Enrichment o UCAS applications and HE information o Student Voice Activity o School Links liaison o Student discipline matters o AG and Programme and Careers Guidance o Student progression/destinations o PHSE o LAC 7. To provide guidance and college information to groups and individuals to ensure they are informed about key aspects of college provision and support available including but not limited to: o Travel assistance o Childcare provision o Funding and financial support o The availability of learner and learning support 8. To provide impartial guidance to prospective students on College courses, apprenticeships and other learning programmes to support them in making informed choices 9. To provide guidance and/or appropriate referral on careers information, education and guidance. 10. To liaise effectively with Departments in order to develop and update learning programme information and admission procedures 11. To enrol students as agreed with Departments and C..S as appropriate. 12. To respond to reported safeguarding concerns and manage Safeguarding cases as required. 13. To refer students who require specialist services to the appropriate internal or external services. 14. To oversee and supervise student Common Rooms as required 15. To arrange and participate in enrichment activities, providing appropriate supervision where required, including residential. 16. To contribute to the organisation of and to attend College Open Evenings and other events internal or external, which focus on student recruitment. 17. To contribute to the collation, analysis and dissemination of information on student recruitment, admissions, attendance and retention. 18. To contribute to the updating of the student information handbook.

To participate in any required training and development activities that support the development of personal and professional effectiveness in the role and contribute to the service development and improvement. 20. To contribute to continuous improvement of quality and service development 21. To undertake first aid duties as required. You will be required to carry out duties as maybe commensurate with the post which do not change the character or purpose of the post which are necessary to maintain high quality standards of business practice. Duties must be carried out in strict compliance with all College policies including equality and diversity, health and safety and quality assurance.
