1 Cambridge Judge Business School Further particulars JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: MBA ADMISSIONS MANAGER HEAD OF MBA ADMISSIONS AND CAREERS The role The role-holder has overall responsibility for ensuring that the MBA programme meets class size targets, and the pipeline of prospective candidates. The main purpose is to develop and manage the admissions process for the full-time MBA programme and to build relationships with candidates in order to select the highest quality class from the applicant pool. The post leads the admissions team to serve selective and demanding multi-cultural customer groups making significant financial investment and personal opportunity costs. The role-holder also works with the marketing team to review the success of marketing plans and make adjustments based on the success with different segments among accepted candidates. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Admissions management Accountable for delivering the class size for the MBA programme. With about 150 students and a target to reach 160 or more, the manager has a huge role in determining the financial revenues for the School. The manager has to achieve these numbers while increasing the quality of our students and not sacrificing diversity indicators such as gender ratios, distribution of nationalities etc. Deciding on admissions policies and procedures. Ensures that our policies and procedures stand up to scrutiny by candidates, and are within University and national regulations, e.g. Data Privacy, and UK visa regime. Assessing applications, and deciding which applicants to invite for interview. Deciding the level of bursaries to be awarded to successful candidates. The MBA Admissions Office either directly awards, or recommends to external bodies, scholarship and bursary awards exceeding 650,000 annually. Deciding which candidates to be put forward for relevant scholarships liaising with the University Board of Graduate Studies, Colleges and scholarship boards as necessary. Secretary to Admissions Committee meetings. Planning admissions schedule for the year, including deadlines Reviewing and proposing changes to the application form, e.g. application questions. Updating faculty and building good relations with faculty who give up their time to interview more than 300 candidates every year. 1

2 Managing communications with prospective and incoming students Being interviewed by publications and journalists, writing blog posts to explain our various admissions policies, and preparing our standard admissions presentation. Ensuring that applicants, interview candidates and incoming students receive timely assistance and top quality customer service; representing the Cambridge MBA in a courteous and professional manner. Monitoring Cambridge MBA-related discussions on various online communities and reporting on issues/concerns/topics of discussions; identifying areas of concern and taking proactive measures to ensure that potential applicants have the correct information and impression of the Cambridge MBA; interacting with applicants and incoming students using online community platform as appropriate. Have direct responsibility for content on the admissions blog ( Scholarship and funding administration Approve scholarship nominees. Decide on the level of bursary awards to individual offer candidates. These awards have to stand up to scrutiny on the basis of merit and fairness. Responsible for policy on fee payments, and policies in the event of late payment, deferrals, intermitting students, students who withdraw etc. Works with the School's finance function to ensure that all students pay their full tuition fees. This also includes deciding on a case-bycase basis whether some students are allowed to adjust their payment schedules. Researching external scholarships with the view to increasing the range of available scholarships for MBA students. Managing the relationship with the external company that administers the School loan process. Promotional activity Assisting with the organisation of recruitment and admissions events, when necessary. Representing Cambridge Judge Business School and promoting the MBA at Interview Days, receptions, events and open days as required; participate in MBA recruitment and admissions events, both in the UK and internationally. Delivering presentations to potentially large groups of MBA candidates to sell the Cambridge MBA. Team leadership Supervision of two admission co-ordinators on a day-to-day basis ensuring that there is always cover in the office. This involves prioritising, delegating and monitoring work, including training staff in procedures and policies, as necessary. Authorising team expenditure. Quarterly Budget management Plan the annual admissions budget (about 50,000). Plan which regions to focus on. 2

3 Forecast class size and revenue. Monitor and make appropriate strategic changes if progress is not made towards the class size targets, gender ratios, GMAT averages etc. Propose and measure the team's Key Performance Indicators, especially revenue targets for the MBA programme. Take necessary action to meet those targets. Reporting admissions data Prepare reports on admissions progress to Executive Director of MBA, Head MBA Admissions and Careers. Prepare quarterly report to Post Graduate Admissions Committee. Collate admissions data for MBA rankings. Liaison with externals and peers at other business schools Build and maintain links with counterparts in other business schools to keep updated on trends and issues. Represent School at Eurofriends, a group of admissions professionals of top European business schools. Analysis of GMAC data of all MBA applicants in the world to understand application trends and proactively refine recruitment plans accordingly. Recruitment planning Responsible for the final class size and revenue targets for the MBA class. Identify untapped applicant pools and feeding that back to the marketing process. Liaise with our careers team to feed information and insights about our enrolled population into planning for careers provision and employer activity. Analysis of GMAC data of all MBA applicants in the world to understand application trends and proactively refine recruitment plans accordingly. The person The ideal candidate should have the following qualities, skills and attributes. You are asked to provide a covering letter demonstrating how your own experience meets these requirements; First degree required. Significant knowledge and experience of recruitment & admissions in the international MBA sector is preferable. Significant knowledge of MBA market and the offerings of leading business schools. Substantial knowledge of, or strong interest in delivering high-end products or services. A track record of managing, developing and motivating a team. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Demonstrable operational and budget management skills. IT literate and competent in the use of databases, spreadsheets, Word and the internet. 3

4 Highly developed planning and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Cultural awareness and sensitivity. Commitment to providing outstanding levels of customer service. Ability to negotiate and influence at a senior level whilst maintaining positive relationships. Demonstrable knowledge, within preferably a relevant post within Higher Education, professional services, marketing or in selection/recruitment of people. Ability to travel overseas to attend recruitment events, deliver presentations and attend meeting with potential MBA candidates. Benefits This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week. There will be a nine month probationary period. Holiday entitlement is 33 days per annum plus eight days of public holidays. The salary will be in the range 28,695-37,394 per annum. The full incremental salary range for the position is advertised in order to demonstrate the progression for the Grade. Appointment within this range, will be determined by the suitability of the successful candidate.
