3 3 MASTERS OF SCIENCE IN STEM EDUCATION FOR CERTIFIED TEACHERS Admissin requirements: The MS STEM Educatin Prgram is fr certified teachers wh hld a bachelr's degree frm a reginally accredited institutin f higher educatin. Applicants must als have a minimum undergraduate GPA f 2.70 n a 4.00 pint scale (where A is 4.00}, r its equivalent, and gd standing (3.00 GPA) in all pst-baccalaureate curse wrk. Teachers wh d nt teach ne r mre f the STEM disciplines (science, technlgy educatin, engineering educatin, r math) may be required t take additinal cntent curses. Prgram Ratinale: The MS in STEM Educatin fr Certified Teachers will prepare certified teachers in the transdisciplinary areas f Science, Technlgy, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Curses are aligned with Natinal and/r CT state cntent standards in each discipline: Science, Technlgy, Engineering, and Math, and the Cmmn Cre fr Mathematics and Language Arts. 5 5 Admissins Standards and Requirements fr the Superintendent Prgram Admissin t this prgram is cmpetitive. Students admitted t this 15-credit prgram will be eligible t apply fr institutinal recmmendatin fr the Superintendent 093 certificate. T be cnsidered fr admissin, applicants must meet the fllwing standards: 1. Pssess an 092 certificate frm the Cnnecticut State Department f Educatin. 2. If yu are nt currently admitted t a CCSU graduate prgram, a cmpleted applicatin fr admissin t the CCSU Graduate Schl must be submitted. 3. At least a 3.00 pst-baccalaureate GPA and a 2.70 undergraduate GPA frm reginally accredited institutins f higher learning are required. Students with a pst-baccalaureate GPA f r higher will receive pririty in prgram admissin. 4. A well-written applicatin essay that addresses the candidate s philsphy f district leadership, includes reflectin n past and current frmal and infrmal leadership experiences, and describes future career gals. 5. Tw letters f recmmendatin frm either district r cmmunity leaders (e.g., superintendent, assistant superintendent, HR directr, bard member) attesting t the applicant s bserved ability t create and sustain psitive prfessinal relatinships, cmmunicate effectively with varius cnstituents, slve cmplex prblems, and demnstrated ptential t lead cmplex educatinal rganizatins. 6. The applicatin requires that fficial transcripts be sent frm all clleges and universities attended t the Graduate Recruitment and Admissins Office. The Pre-PAC chair will schedule an advising appintment with the applicant t discuss a ptential prgram f study in keeping with his r her academic backgrund and prfessinal gals. Applicatins must be received by the pririty deadline f Octber 1 r n later than Nvember 1 fr spring admissin. Pst-baccalaureate certificate students are classified as graduate students; they may be either part-time r full-time and may qualify fr financial aid. Only students matriculated as full-time may take nine r mre credits a semester. Part-time and nn-matriculated students are limited t less than nine credits/semester. Prgram Requirements While each student s academic prgram will be tailred t meet the individual s specific academic needs and prfessinal gals, a mdel prgram that wuld be apprpriate fr a student with a minimal science backgrund is shwn belw. This mdel prgram als illustrates the 45-credit upper limit fr this certificate prgram. Smaller academic prgrams may be pssible fr students with sme science backgrund, with a lwer limit f 26 credits. All individual prgrams must be designed and apprved in cnsultatin with the Pre-PAC advisry cmmittee at the admissin interview.
