3 Practical Nursing Prgram Certificate The Bulder Cunty Campus ffers a Practical Nursing prgram that is designed t prepare students t functin as practical nurses. Emplyment pprtunities are fund in numerus health care rganizatins. Graduates f this prgram receive a certificate in practical nursing and are eligible t apply fr the Natinal Cuncil Licensing Examinatin, Practical Nursing NCLEX -PN fr licensure t practice as an LPN. The prgram is designed fr students whse primary gal is practical nursing. The practical nursing prgram is a ne-year full- time prgram f study but students may elect a part time prgram f study (fur semesters). In the past, students have been placed n waitlists. The Practical Nursing Prgram is transitining t an admissins prcess that identifies thse students wh are best prepared fr the prgram and assist thse wh wish t be admitted by identifying general educatin areas in need f further skill imprvement befre entering the practical nursing curses. At this pint, n further students will be placed n the waitlist. Students whse names are currently n the prgram waitlist will remain n the list and will be ffered admissin as their names reach the tp. Students wh are currently n the waitlist must peridically reaffirm their intentin t be admitted t the prgram and shuld make sure that mailing addresses and cntact infrmatin are current. The prgram's cmpetitive admissin prcess utilizes scres frm a preadmissin assessment examinatin given peridically at Bulder Cunty Campus. Students must have cmpleted requirements fr Practical Nursing Prgram admissin. (Hwever, students may be currently enrlled in sme prerequisite curses if they will be satisfactrily cmpleted prir t prgram start.) Students wishing t sit fr the preadmissin assessment examinatin must submit an applicatin attesting t cmpletin (r near cmpletin) f requirements. Students may retake the entire preadmissin assessment exam nce, after six mnths (cntact department fr plicy); the mst current scres will be used fr the cmpetitive admissin prcess. 4 Admissin Prcess fr Practical Nursing Certificate Students shuld cnsult with a Nursing Advisr befre applying t the prgram. All prerequisites must be cmpleted befre the student will be admitted int the practical nursing prgram and given a prgram start date. In additin, the fllwing are required fr admissin: a) Required Basic Skill Assessment Scres - Students must btain the fllwing scres: Mathematics: EA 61 r greater (r cmplete MAT 050 r 055 at FRCC r a cllege-level mathematics curse frm a reginally accredited cllege r university.) Science: department standard. b) Prerequisite curses must be cmpleted with a Grade f "C" r abve and a cumulative GPA f 2.75 : i. BIO 106* Basic Anatmy and Physilgy (r students may chse bth BIO 201* Human Anatmy and Physilgy I and BIO 202* Human Anatmy and Physilgy II). Nte: *Must be cmpleted within seven years prir t entry int the nursing prgram. ii. ENG 121 English Cmpsitin I iii. Current CPR Curse - Cmpletin f the American Heart Health Care Prvider curse - "C" - which must remain current thrughut the nursing prgram. It must be Prfessinal BLS (basic life supprt). 3. Cmplete a health summary with dcumented recrds fr required immunizatins r titers (prir t clinical experience) 4. Students accepted int the nursing prgram must meet the same health and safety requirements as the participating clinical facilities require f their wn staff. Additinal screening may be required fr sme clinical agencies. The expenses f these requirements are additinal t the students. 5. A urine drug screen will be required fr PN students the semester f their first clinical experience. 6. Other requirements and expectatins are cntained within the FRCC Nursing Handbk (including the Required Standards Plicy). 7. Ability t speak, read, write, and understand English t cmmunicate sufficiently with patients and health-care team. Only ne re-entry t the Practical Nursing prgram is prvided after receiving a "D," "F," "U" r "W" grade in a required NUR curse. 6 HESI Entrance Exams fr Practical Nursing: Entry int the PN Prgram is based n a cmpetitive admissin prcess: Students will fill ut a PN Prgram Preadmissin Assessment Examinatin Request Frm that shws they have apprpriate credentials t sit fr the HESI exam. The Preadmissin frm must include a cpy f their transcripts (if nt frm Frnt Range) HESI A2 (practical nursing) exam scres frm BCC-administered exam. The sum f the fllwing sub-test scres will be used t calculate admissins scres. N scre lwer than 70% is allwed fr any f the fllwing subtests: a. Math b. Reading Cmprehensin c. Vcabulary/General Knwledge d. Grammar e. Anatmy & Physilgy Additinally, althugh nt utilized t calculate admissin scres, students must take the Learning Styles and Persnality Prfile sub-tests. Qualified students will be prvided with the HESI Entrance Exam Frm. This frm will allw the student t schedule their HESI entrance exam at the BCC Testing Center. Imprtant: Once the student receives the HESI Entrance Exam Frm they are qualified t take the HESI at the BCC Testing Center: Students are required t schedule at testing time and date with the Testing Center within 10 days f receiving the Entrance Exam Frm. Please ntify the Nursing Department by with yur test date: [email protected]. Preadmissin assessment scres will be shared with applicants. If apprpriate, suggestins will be given regarding hw t imprve in weaker areas. Transfer Plicy: BCC Practical Nurse and ADN Prgrams: The fllwing transfer plicy has been implemented fr admissin t bth the Practical Nursing Prgram and the LPN t ADN Bridge Prgrams fr students desiring t transfer frm ther nursing prgrams: Transfer students are accepted n a space-available basis nly Transfer students must have cmpleted all prerequisites in accrdance with prgram admissin and GPA requirements. Transfer students must achieve an average f 80% n the BCC-administered apprpriate HESI preadmissin assessment with n scre lwer than 80% n any f the five required subtests: Anatmy and Physilgy Grammar Mathematics Reading Cmprehensin Vcabulary/General Understanding N transfer student will be accepted wh has failed mre than ne previus nursing curse 6

If yu are accepted int the Practical Nursing Prgram, a mandatry Nursing Orientatin will be scheduled during the week befre classes begin in Fall and in Spring each year (please see Academic Calendar fr semester dates). If yu are unable t attend Orientatin n the scheduled day, yu will frfeit yur psitin in the Prgram. 2. Yu must cmplete an nline backgrund check at as directed by a nursing representative within 90 days prir t admissin. Be aware that it can smetimes take six eight weeks fr this backgrund check. 3. The fllwing criminal ffenses appearing n a criminal backgrund check will disqualify an applicant fr admissin t a CCCS nursing prgram: Any vilent felny cnvictins f hmicide.
