Conference Overview Silver Exhibitors Opening Remarks Richard Lea, PT Vice President of Operations, Euclid Hospital Keynote Address End of Life Care: A Family Affair Peggy Z. Shipley, PhD, RN, CSN Assistant Professor, Department of Nursing, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania Dr. Peggy Shipley originally earned a BS in music education from The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) and worked as a high school band and choir director for five years prior to changing careers and pursuing a professional career in nursing. Earning her BSN from Penn State, she initially worked in an ICU/CCU. After receiving her school nurse certification, she worked as an elementary school nurse for 13 years. Academically, she pursued and earned her MSN and PhD in nursing. While at Penn State, she served as a research assistant, which fueled her research interest in end-of-life family caregiving and eventually led to her dissertation research examining the phenomenon of being a family caregiver to a loved one with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Dr. Shipley has disseminated her research findings both nationally and internationally, recently returning from Kyoto, Japan, where she was an invited podium presenter at the 35th International Association for Human Caring Conference in May 2014. She is currently an Assistant Professor for the Department of Nursing at Slippery Rock University where she teaches in the RN to BSN program and coordinates the School Nurse Certification Program. Plenary Lecture Using Motivational Interviewing to Enhance Patient Engagement Jeremy Evenden, MSSA, LISW-S Consultant and Trainer, The Center for Evidence-Based Practices, Case Western Reserve University Jeremy is a consultant and trainer at the Center for Evidence-Based Practices (CEBP) at Case Western Reserve University in the Ohio Substance Abuse and Mental Illness Coordinating Center of Excellence (Ohio SAMI CCOE) initiative. He provides technical assistance (consulting and training) to organizations that are implementing evidence-based practices, emerging best practices, and other strategies that improve services and outcomes for people diagnosed with severe mental illness and substance use disorders. Jeremy is an adjunct professor at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences where he teaches Motivational Interviewing. He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international association of trainers in motivational interviewing. He received his undergraduate degree in Social Work from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and his graduate degree in Social Administration from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
