2 Brain Injury Rehabilitation: Management and Outcomes in Different Models of Care THE BEST REHABILITATION HOSPITAL MEANS THE BEST REHABILITATION EDUCATION. The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) is ranked the Best Rehabilitation Hospital in America, in part because it fully integrates research, clinical care, and education, through the Continuing Education (CE) programs offered by the RIC Academy. The RIC Academy CE programs help you keep abreast of changes in your field. The curriculum is grounded in evidence-based practice when appropriate as well as based on the collective clinical experience of our staff. DESCRIPTION Modern research in neuroscience, motor learning, and cognitive function have added new dimensions to our understanding and management of traumatic brain injury. In addition, the changes in health care have also impacted our management of and models of care for this population. The differences in outcomes in the military vs. the civilian population and the changing model of care for traumatic brain injury patients as a result of the health care reform will be the focus of the keynote addresses. Lectures and workshops will address the ethical issues related to use of social media by individuals with traumatic brain injury, sleep problems, vision therapy, methods to measure quality of life, family adaptation after brain injury, caring for caregivers, neuropsychological testing and managing cognitive impairments.
