2 Northwestern s Second Annual Advances in Pulmonary Medicine CME Symposium Course Directors:, and Sharon R. Rosenberg, MD There have been several recent advances in the treatment of patients with various pulmonary conditions. Given the specialized nature of these diseases, it is difficult for the community physician in clinical practice to maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. In addition, new biological agents and novel therapies are currently in the pipeline for treating patients with advanced and rare lung diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease and pulmonary arterial hypertension and more common lung diseases such as COPD, sleep apnea and lung cancer. This educational program is focused toward healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with pulmonary disease. There will be didactic lectures, two hands-on breakout sessions and case discussions. We hope you will join the Northwestern faculty on Friday, November 20 for an informal and interactive discussion. Program Objectives After attending this educational activity, participants should be able to: 1) Recognize the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disorders. 2) Describe the risks and benefits of therapeutic options including clinical trials for patients with advanced lung diseases. 3) Discuss multidisciplinary technological advances in the treatment of patients with advanced lung diseases. 4) Explain the role of lung transplantation in the treatment of patients with advanced lung diseases.
