2 Purpose The goal of this conference is to bring together RNs from every specialty, position and region to discover quality nursing practice models, network, and provide support in pursuit of excellence in evidence based nursing practice and research. Networking opportunities are also provided. Elections and organization business will be conducted on Friday, October 16, Intended Audience ANA-Michigan conferences and workshops are open to all RNs and nursing students. You do not need to be a member to attend. Voting during the Assembly is limited to members only. Continuing Education Credits Attendees will be able to earn continuing education credits during this two day conference. An application for credits has been made with the Wisconsin Nurses Association. Wisconsin Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Exhibitor Day Exhibit hall will be open on Thursday, October 15, The exhibitor deadline to register is August 31, 2015 and the dis-play fee is $450. Margaret (Peg) Nelson, RN-BC, MSN, NP, ACHPN Director of Palliative Care and Pain Services St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Pontiac, Michigan. This is a blended role as an APN who provides inpatient and outpatient pain and palliative care services as well as serving as the director of the program. In addition she is adjunct faculty for Madonna University in the Palliative Care NP track Nelson holds a BSN from University of Michigan, MSN from Oakland University and Post Masters in Palliative Care from Ursuline College in Ohio. Board Certified in Palliative Care as a Nurse Practitioner and certified in Pain Management. In 2014 Nelson was selected as Master Faculty for Pain Pharmacology by the American Society of Pain Management Nurses one of 6 in nation. Louise C. Selanders, EdD, RN, FAAN Dr. Louise Selanders is Professor Emerita in the College of Nursing at Michigan State University, having taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She was Director of the Master s program, instituted the second degree accelerated option curriculum and led the development for the Doctor of Nursing trajectory. Each summer, she leads a study abroad offering in London which focuses on the historical development of nursing as a profession. Dr. Selanders research has focused on the impact of the contributions of Florence Nightingale on modern nursing. She is internationally recognized as a Nightingale Scholar, and has published frequently on the topic as well as speaking nationally and internationally. With colleagues, she authored Florence Nightingale Today: Healing Leadership, Global Action which was awarded the American Nurses Association book of the year award. As a result of her research efforts, she was selected as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Sharon L. Smith, PhD, RN Dr. Smith is currently the Director of Professional Development and Education for Nursing Services at the University of Michigan Health System. In this role Dr. Smith is able to combine all of her passions education, creativity, and change management. Dr. Smith is also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing and teaches graduate level courses in change management and systems assessment. Prior to role as the Director of Professional Development and Education at UMHS, Dr. Smith was President of her own consulting company - changesmith, LLC, a healthcare consulting company that specialized in change management, performance improvement, accreditation readiness, and leadership development. Prior to building her own company, Dr. Smith spent 12 years with Mercy Health Services (now Trinity Health) of Farmington Hills, MI, in a variety of positions including Vice President of Leadership Development and Quality (Battle Creek Health System), Internal Consultant for Accreditation and Regulatory Services (Mercy Health Services), and Vice President, Patient Care Services Mercy Hospital, Detroit, MI. Dr. Smith started her nursing career at the University of Michigan Medical Center (UMMC) and held roles as a staff nurse, educational coordinator (MICU), clinical specialist (SICU), and nurse manager (TICU). Dr. Smith is an accomplished speaker and writer with nearly 200 presentations to her credit; she speaks on such topics as change management, role transition, innovation and creativity. She has written multiple clinical articles and administrative articles related to change management and risk taking.
