More than 70% of Americans seek medical attention for headaches at some point in their lives. Headache disorders account for 1% of all disability and 9% of all lost labor every year in the U.S. The goal of this course is to provide scientific and clinical information which will improve the ability of healthcare professionals, to care for both children and adults with headache. Course didactics will cover clinical and neuroradiological diagnosis of both primary and secondary headache disorders, including concussion. Updates on treatment strategies, including medications, injections, supplements, lifestyle changes, and behavioral therapies will be presented. Emerging treatments including neuromodulation and monoclonal antibodies will also be discussed. This course is designed for physicians, including neurologists, pediatricians, internists, gynecologists, and family medicine physicians, as well as for nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, physical therapists, residents and students and all other healthcare professionals with an interest in the diagnosis and treatment of headaches. 4 OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to: Diagnose primary headaches, and recognize the red flags for secondary headache disorders, including concussion Cite the role of neuroimaging in headache diagnosis Describe up-to-date management of migraine in children and adults Implement advanced therapies, including parenteral and nonoral pharmacological treatments, and neuromodulation Discuss the role of diet and sleep in migraine and apply behavioral medicine principles to treatment ACCREDITATIONS This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Toledo and the North Central Headache Society. The University of Toledo is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
