Job Title: Base: Assistant Software Developer Stopford Building, University of Manchester Grade: 5 Reports to: Software Development Team Leader Key activities Assist in the production of innovative software of the highest quality in accordance with the NWEH procedures to agreed deadlines and objectives. Take an active role in the development and evolution software development offered by NWEH. Play a supporting role in the development and evolution of the technical architecture. Provide second line support to users and maintain deployed software. Ensure quality assurance procedures are followed and the standard at all times validated for deployment in a clinical environment Assist in the production of reports, technical and user documentation. Ensure that data handling and analysis complies with relevant standards and statutory regulations. Ensure that your conduct supports the NWEH Information Governance procedures. Work with client personnel, academic staff and industry personnel on-site and off-site as required. Assist in accreditation and certification processes that NWEH participates in and adheres to. Create a combination of standard and more complex documents or materials for others, using computer packages/software/ equipment based on a general brief. Oversee specific activities and processes in support of service provision. Carry out routine analysis of information, data and/or calculations, identifying issues which require addressing, and presenting results accurately and appropriately. Provide information and guidance to staff, and others using skills drawn from learning and experience. Lead short-term projects within own area/section or contribute to medium-term projects as part of larger project teams, to support the achievements of project objectives. Customer service Work with end-user and partner organisations to develop user cases and support development of requirements Work with end-user and partner organisations to deliver projects. Point of contact for queries, providing information and a range of solutions to choose from; allowing for any potential implications and raising issues of concern. Referring more complex queries upwards. Liaise closely with customers, service providers and others, establishing the most appropriate type of contact (e.g. email, correspondence, face to face, etc.). PERSON SPECIFICATION Criteria for grade 5 professional services post Qualifications A degree in computer science or related subject or a minimum of one year s experience of full-time software development Experience and knowledge Experience in the production of quality object oriented software development across the whole of the development lifecycle Knowledge of web application development. Ability to write clear and accurate documentation appropriate for its target audience; able to present and explain detailed technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Self-motivated and tenacious; able to work both independently and in a team; able to adapt to changes in roles and tasks; able to manage time effectively, and deliver within a defined timeframe Knowledge and experience of three or more of the following business intelligence, ontologies, computer security, web services, service oriented architectures, web usability and accessibility, data management, distributed systems, data integration, data analysis, data visualisation Ability to plan and organise short-term activities and events. Awareness of project management techniques to contribute to small /shortterm projects in own area.
