1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Salary: Hours/Tenure: Responsible to: Interim Director of Communications & Marketing Circa 55k per annum FTE 0.5FTE 1 year Fixed Term Contract The Principal dotted line responsibility to VP Curriculum & Student Services Purpose of Post To lead on the development, delivery and management of the internal and external communications and marketing functions in line with Bromley College of Further & Higher Education (BCF&HE) policies and procedures. The post holder will be the guardian of the College s brand across all activities and will have close involvement with the updating and delivery of the College s Strategic Plan. To lead on public relations and reputation management ensuring that the College is reported upon favourably to enhance the perceptions of our existing and prospective stakeholders and within both the local and wider community as being market leaders in the provision of Further and Higher education. Main duties and responsibilities Marketing Responsibility for the College s Marketing function including the management of the Marketing team. Lead and develop new creative marketing initiatives to attract new business, drive customer loyalty and build effective partnerships. Manage specific enquiries, projects and activities, including the coordination of external consultants, partners and evaluators. Marketing Team Manage and coordinate the performance of staff within the communications and marketing team and line manage the Marketing Manager, ensuring that appropriate objectives and targets are both in place and met annually. Responsibility for the development, delivery and effective management of Communications and Marketing budgets in line with College requirements. Support/lead on organisational change initiatives with respect to own areas of responsibility within the College.

2 Internal and External Communications Partner with HR to develop an engaging Internal Communications and Engagement Strategy and set, monitor and report against impact and improvement targets Develop, deliver and manage an integrated Communications and Marketing Strategic Plan to ensure that the College s brand and its messages are communicated effectively, timely and appropriately. Lead on the development and implementation of internal communications to improve communication methods and the College s approach to communications and marketing activities. Track, monitor and analyse the impact and ROI for all Communications and Marketing activity to improve effectiveness. Engage with colleagues from across BCF&HE to contribute to enhancing their understanding and knowledge of the BCF&HE brand, its audiences, communications and marketing. Brand/Building Capacity Act as the College s brand guardian to ensure that every aspect of the brand and its implementation conforms to the brand strategy and the brand guide. Provide support and advice to staff at all levels on branding, communications and marketing. Promote the interests and image of BCF&HE externally and communicate the views and interests of external audiences to BCF&HE providing feedback and insights derived from intelligence and experience. Build the effectiveness of our alumni offering, partnering with curriculum teams to ensure we maximise opportunities. Build upon the College s Community Engagement Strategy and support activities which improve greater working within the wider community e.g. employers and charities. Reputation Management Responsibility for the College s copyright and trademark rights. Identify emerging issues of significance in terms of the College s reputation and the impact on its key audiences and partners. Proactively manage both potential and anticipated risks to the College s reputation. Press and Public Relations Ensure excellent relationships are maintained with all media. Work with the Principal to deliver an effective corporate affairs strategy that enables excellent relationships with politicians, key opinion formers and influencers.

3 Prepare press releases/statements in order to actively promote the activities of the College and preserve and enhance the College s reputation within the local and wider community. Strategic Planning Lead on the development of service planning for the communications and marketing function, interpreting the College s strategic plan in order to develop and deliver an annual work plan, and ensure that its objectives are met. Report monthly on the progress against this plan Provide brand, communications and marketing input to the development of the College s strategic and annual plans and other corporate documentation as required. Contribute to College wide policies and procedures as applicable. Ensure that our customer analytics provide the information needed to maximise opportunities for increasing student numbers year on year. Take lead role in driving digital transformation for the organisation. Set and ensure the achievement of performance targets: identify risks and take action to mitigate those risks and maintain business continuity. Develop and maintain a sound understanding of the context in which BCF&HE activities are performed. Support activities which are aimed at increasing opportunities for income generation. Lead College-wide initiatives and support Directors in the corporate management of BCF&HE. Provide support and expert advice on managed areas of activity to support the work of the College. Provide advice to BCF&HE s Corporation as and when required. BCFHE and group activities Develop and implement an overarching Communications and Marketing Strategy consistent with our mission and goals for the College and the Bromley Educational Trust (BET). Ensure that all teams and departments of the College across all campuses as well as the College s subsidiaries e.g. Bromley Educational Trust have access to a first class marketing/pr service. Provide marketing, PR and communications input to all subsidiaries of BCF&HE ensuring that all areas/different campuses within the wider College have clarity in relation to the College s brand and supporting the need for different departments/campuses to maintain their own identity within the overall brand e.g. through the use of the palate of approved corporate colours.

4 Personal Represent BCF&HE externally in sector groups and committees and lead negotiations with institutions and stakeholder organisations on behalf of BCF&HE. Take part in meetings as a team member and actively share experience, knowledge and solutions with colleagues. Exercise absolute integrity in respect of confidential matters. Maintain a commitment to equality and diversity having due regard to equality issues in all decision-making and implement BCF&HE s Equality policy. Comply with Health and Safety policy and procedures at all times in the workplace. Adhere to the College s RAISE Values and act as a role model promoting College values. Carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post at all times in compliance with the College s policies and procedures and operate in accordance with best practice at all times. The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to complete such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grade of the post.

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION: INTERIM DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING Qualifications: Educated to degree Level or equivalent Management qualification or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level Masters Degree in Marketing, Communications or PR Knowledge and experience: Management experience at senior leadership level Experience of developing strategic communications/pr plans Significant experience in internal and external stakeholder management including staff engagement Experience of managing a Marketing function within a large and complex organisation Substantial and demonstrable experience and success in managing internal communications within a large organisation Experience in reputation management and experience of developing positive brand perceptions. Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal Experience of creating corporate documentation for a variety of audiences Ability to manage a busy team and ensure all targets and objectives are met.
