Position Characteristics: The Manager HR Consulting is responsible for leading a team of 7 Consultants. The HR Consulting team provides expert human resource management advice, support and guidance on case management, change management, recruitment and HR issues within designated portfolio(s); and provides HR tools to assist business areas to effectively manage their staff and achieve their strategic direction. Scope The Human Resources Branch is contained within the Division of Services and Resources and serves a client base of approximately 3,500 staff. 3 Key Responsibilities and Outcomes 1 Effective people management of the Human Resources Consulting and Recruitment Services Teams 2 An active member of the HR Leadership Team 3 Develop effective partnering relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders 4 5 Provide strategic HR advice to management on complex HR issues to empower them with the knowledge and skills to manage staffing situations effectively and independently Facilitate change management within the University to ensure to ensure everyone in the organisation is ready, willing, and able to appropriately perform their role in the new environment. 6 Facilitate, advise and consult with managers and supervisors for successful case management POSITION TITLE Manage and coach staff to provide effective consulting services to University management by undertaking team planning, defining position requirements, recruiting to those positions, implementing PDR, proactively recognising achievement and undertaking succession planning. Develop a practical understanding of contemporary HR management, ER and organisational development issues within the team. Active contribution to HR Leadership Team and wider Branch strategy initiatives and provision of relevant information back to the team in an appropriate way. Contribution to strategic and business planning. Active participation in Branch events and development days to ensure the agreed objectives are met. University Management actively seeks HR input on all strategic planning and decisions. A consultancy based model of HR Service delivery is fostered across a diverse organisation to provide exceptional service. Develop and maintain agreed service standards to key clients. Identify trends and common issues across the University and work with stakeholders to develop organisationally-relevant strategies. Lead and mentor the HR Consulting and Recruitment Services teams on the provision of HR advice on all matters. Ensure all Faculty and Division Management will be provided with timely, consistent, specialist HR advice with respect to Employment legislation, Certified Agreement, HR Policies, guidelines and HR best practice through the HR Consulting and Recruitment Services teams. Assist managers to analyse and interpret workforce data to make sound strategic decisions. Ensure expert employee relations advice is provided to the business in conjunction with the Employee Relations team. Partner and coach managers to undertake successful change management activities. Take a lead role in the development of change management toolkits and resources to support managers. Utilise strong conceptual and analytical capabilities to interpret and influence the organisational environment to effect change in management practices. Ensure effective communication to other HR teams to implement any staffing changes. Facilitate, advise and consult with supervisors on successful case management including coaching, facilitating, mediating, negotiating and investigating issues in a timely, proactive manner. Coach the HR Consulting team on early intervention case management. Identify the need and recommend external service providers where

Ensure effective administration and reporting of case management issues by the HR Consulting team. Ensure timely interaction with the Workplace Relations, Employee Services, Health Safety & Wellbeing teams (and relevant external parties) to achieve a coordinated approach to all case management issues. Transfer understanding of workplace relations to managers and supervisors individually and through the HR Consulting team. Promote successful mediation, negotiation and facilitation of sensitive people matters to ensure early intervention. Implement and follow standard administrative practices and principles including EEO, OHS&W and records management. Lead complex projects and manage resources to achieve corporate objectives in a timely manner and within budget. Lead process improvement projects across the team and HR Branch. Contribute to the development of HR systems and processes and help lead the implementation to facilitate organisational change/development. Provides open leadership and effective communication during change Builds and supports team resilience in changing times Maintains clarity and focus on outcomes in turbulent situations Demonstrates willingness to modify a strongly held position in the face of new information Presents information persuasively, with skill and power, seeking to influence an audience of critical importance to the University, profession or discipline (e.g. conference presentation). 6 POSITION TITLE Knowledge and Experience Essential Significant experience working across all relevant aspects of contemporary Human Resource management including Recruitment, Remuneration and Benefits, OHS&W, Equity and Diversity, Workplace Relations and Organisational Development. Experience working in a internal consultancy/partnership model; Experience in the provision of expert professional/technical advice to support decision making; Knowledge of federal employment legislation and demonstrated experience in accurately interpreting and pragmatically applying employment law in the workplace; Experience in the resolution of disputes, grievances and other workplace relations situations between staff, unions and management; Experience in leading and partnering change management; Experience in developing and implementing policies; Demonstrated experience in developing and managing professional staff. Desirable Sound knowledge of the Australian higher education sector and the distinctive profile of the University of Adelaide. Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in a human resources area or equivalent skills and knowledge. Equivalent skills and knowledge would equate to significant and relevant work experience as a senior HR practitioner encompassing core areas of human resource management. Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Requirements University Expectations All Supervising staff are required to implement and maintain the University s OH&S Management System in areas under their control ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and the established Performance Standards. All other staff will assist the Head of School/Branch to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by working safely, adhering to instructions and using the equipment provided in accordance with safe operating procedures. Where appropriate, staff will initiate and participate in worksite inspections, accident reporting and investigations, develop safe work procedures and provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision. Staff will also inform the Head of School/Branch of any unsafe working practices or hazardous working conditions. All staff are expected to: Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of their team or work unit in order to meet University objectives. This includes demonstrating appropriate and professional workplace behaviours in accordance with the Code of Conduct, providing assistance to team members if required and undertaking other key responsibilities or activities as directed by one s supervisors; Participate in the Planning Development and Review Process which includes a regular review of their performance against the responsibilities an performance objectives associated with the role and demonstration of appropriate behaviours which reflect a commitment to the University s values and strategic directions; Perform their responsibilities in a manner which reflects and responds to continuous improvement; and Familiarise themselves and comply with the University s Occupational Health and Safety, Equity and Diversity and other relevant University Policies and procedures.
