2 MAJOR STROKE and the Continuum of Care Connecticut Stroke Conference 2014 PROGRAM OBJECTIVE This program is designed to increase the healthcare professionals knowledge of current cerebrovascular issues in caring for stroke patients and families across the continuum of care. LEARNING OBJECTIVES After participating in this activity, participants will be able to: Restate the burden of stroke morbidity and mortality in CT. Describe the role of EMS personnel in the identification and initial evaluation of patients with suspected stroke. Explain a diagnostic evaluation and treatment plan for patients presenting with acute stroke symptoms. Identify the appropriate imaging and decision algorithms for neuro-interventional procedures in acute stroke. Describe the eligibility and current objectives of two ischemic stroke trials. Recognize the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of patients requiring neuro-intensive care. Summarize the approach to the management of the complex ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patient. Outline the key components of recovery care for patients & families faced with complications of major strokes. Identify the resources and rehabilitation needs for patients and families. CERTIFICATION Continuing Medical Education Accreditation - Physicians The American Heart Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Heart Association designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
