2 Statement of Need: With advances in Pediatric Emergency Medicine that are continually evolving and clinical practices constantly changing, gaps still exist in diagnosis and treatment of patients in the Pediatric Emergency Department. Physicians, residents, nurses and physician assistants need to be educated on emerging techniques, treatment modalities, best practices and current medicine protocols for optimal pediatric care, especially in acute situations. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to regularly update clinicians on the most current, cutting-edge strategies in treating these pediatric patients. Lectures, case presentations and evidence-based literature review will focus on decision-making during a pediatric emergency, respiratory distress, toxins, abscesses, pneumothoraces and a wide range of pediatric traumas. Lastly, a series of rapid-fire presentations, designed to provide actionable information quickly, will keep learners engaged and attentive. Program Objectives: All North Shore-LIJ Health System CME activities are designed to improve patient care, safety and outcomes. At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to: APPLY current and emerging therapies that can improve outcomes for pediatric patients treated in the PED, particularly those with respiratory distress, vomiting, abscesses, and pneumothoraces. REVIEW current evidence-based literature and cases of pediatric abdominal traumas and integrate best practices into treatment protocols. DEVELOP and APPLY strategies to appropriately manage and care for pediatric patients with acute and life threatening medical and traumatic pathologies EXAMINE and IDENTIFY treatment and management strategies that the PEM physician can apply to the care of pediatric patients Target Audience: PEM attendings, PEM fellows, PED and EM residents, pediatricians, ED PAs, and ED Nurses CME Accreditation: North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Nursing Credit: The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) will accept 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit as equal to 1.0 ANCC contact hour.
