5 MISSION STATEMENT The Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (FLAAEM) is a democratic organization committed to the following principles: Every individual should have unencumbered access to quality emergency care provided by a specialist in emergency medicine. The practice of emergency medicine is best conducted by a specialist in emergency medicine. A specialist in emergency medicine is a physician who has achieved, through personal dedication and sacrifice, certification by either the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM). The personal and professional welfare of the individual specialist in emergency medicine is a primary concern to the FLAAEM. FLAAEM supports fair and equitable practice environments necessary to allow the specialist in emergency medicine to deliver the highest quality of patient care. Such an environment includes provisions for due process and the absence of restrictive covenants. FLAAEM supports the growth of residency programs and graduate medical education, which are essential to the continued enrichment of Emergency Medicine, and to ensure a high quality of care for the patient. PURPOSE The purpose of the FLAAEM CME program is to provide lifelong learning opportunities to physicians and other health care providers that aim to increase knowledge, attitude, skills, enhance practice performance and improve the delivery of emergency medical care. CONTENT AREAS The FLAAEM CME program offers over several distinct educational activities via the annual summer meeting. The content of these programs is diverse. FLAAEM CME program include CME activities pertinent to the daily practice of emergency medicine. The CME activity will provide the most up to date current guideline using evidence-based medicine, Review of the Life learning Self Assessment articles and current concepts in prehospital and disaster medicine. TARGET AUDIENCE The FLAAEM CME program targets a diverse audience of learners, both in terms of professional background and practice environment. The audience is comprised primarily of emergency medicine physicians board certified or board eligible, residents, and because of the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of modern medical practice, the program has also targeted other health professionals including nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, emergency medicine technicians and paramedics. TYPE OF ACTIVITIES PROVIDED The FLAAEM CME program offers live. Live activities include directly sponsored courses with print enduring materials. EXPECTED RESULTS OF THE PROGRAM The FLAAEM CME program is expected to improve the professional knowledge attitude and skills of learners and to meet learners global educational needs. We also expect that enhancements in knowledge, attitudes, and skills will be applied to clinical practice. In this manner, we hope to improve the health outcomes of the population served by our target audience.
