2 PROGRAM OVERVIEW & TARGET AUDIENCE Using the quality metrics set by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for their Star Rating system as a benchmark, we intend to use this symposium to share information & projects focusing on process improvement, patient safety & quality outcomes. This symposium has been designed for healthcare professionals involved in the care of cardiac surgery patients including CV Surgeons, CV Anesthesiologists, Nurse Practitioners & Physician s Assistants, RNs, Perfusionists, Pharmacists and Administrators Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: Relate the Four Imperatives of the Blueprint for Quality & their associated priority actions Describe the Choosing Wisely program s mission & goals Identify methods to decrease blood administration in CV surgery patients Explain process changes that can help reduce postoperative intubation times Hosting Departments Penn Medicine and Affiliates: 2nd CV Surgery Quality Symposium is hosted by the Heart & Vascular Center at the Perelman School of Medicine and the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Accreditation Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Nurses: The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Nursing Education, Innovation and Professional Development is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Patient Safety Hours: Some presentations at this conference will be designated for Patient Safety hours. The details will be noted in the course syllabus and Certificate. Designation of Credit Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses: The program will award 6.5 contact hours. Certificates and Transcripts: A few days prior to the symposium, pre-registered participants will receive an containing directions, additional symposium information and a link to the symposium pre-test, a short questionnaire that will be used to gauge participant knowledge. After the symposium has concluded, all participants will receive a follow-up containing a link to the post-test, symposium evaluation and request for credit. Once participants submit the request for credit, the credit can be viewed on a transcript or a certificate can be printed by logging onto Disclosures The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Office of Continuing Medical Education, adheres to the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support.
