Objectives At the completion of this conference, the participant should be better able to: Identify genetic syndromes associated with hearing loss. Describe the process of genetic testing for non-syndromic hearing loss. Explain the importance of identifying the underlying genetic causes of hearing loss. Identify risk factors for hearing loss in the high risk newborn. Identify the limitations of current screening protocols and recommendations for followup audiological assessments. Discuss impact of hearing impairment on long term neurodevelopmental outcomes of the high risk infant. Describe the epidemiology and manifestations of congenital CMV infections, including auditory findings. Discuss the management of infants identified with congenital CMV infection. Describe the role of the audiologist in the management of infants with congenital CMV infection. Identify the agents causing hearing loss in children with childhood cancer and the challenges in measuring this loss. Discuss interventions to prevent or reduce morbidity of hearing loss in survivors of childhood cancer. Describe the evaluation process for children with suspected hearing loss. Highlight syndromic and nonsyndromic forms of pediatric hearing loss. Identify common causes of hearing loss found in the acute rehabilitation setting. Recognize the role of hearing screening in the management of the child with brain injury.

5 Conference Information Course Description This conference for hearing healthcare professionals will focus on a variety of medical conditions related to pediatric hearing loss including premature development, chemotherapy, congenital cytomegalovirus, stroke, various otologic diseases, and genetic syndromes. Experts from the fields of Genetics, Infectious Disease, Neonatology, Oncology, Otolaryngology, and Physiatry will provide a foundation for often complex medical diagnoses and their connection to hearing loss. Conference participants will have the unique opportunity to dialogue with highly respected professionals whose insight will enrich the management of pediatric patients with hearing loss. Who should attend? This course is designed for audiologists, as well as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists who have an interest in learning more about hearing loss in these patient populations. Parents who are involved with children with these diagnoses are also welcome to attend.
