2 Coronary CTA in the Emergency Department: A Hands-on Workshop Target Audience Radiologists Emergency Medicine Physicians Cardiologists Symposium Overview Utilizing dedicated workstations, physicians will review 50 supervised coronary CTA cases of patients presenting with acute chest pain to the emergency department. Correlation with invasive angiograms and patient outcomes will be provided by expert faculty. The focus will be on best-practice strategies for the use of coronary CTA and triple rule-out CT protocol to properly diagnose, detect and evaluate emergency room patients with acute chest pain or other symptoms suggestive of acute coronary syndrome. After a 11/2-day workshop, the symposium will conclude with a three-hour didactic session on Chest Pain in the Emergency Department. Note: This final session is also the first session of the Ninth Annual Emergency Radiology Symposium. Educational Objectives At the conclusion of this symposium, participants should be better able to: Effectively utilize computed tomography angiography (CTA) and triple rule-out CT protocol to properly diagnose, detect and evaluate emergency room patients with acute chest pain or other symptoms suggestive of acute coronary syndrome. Apply the basic and more advanced interpretation principles of coronary CT angiography datasets. Explain the relationship between coronary CT angiography findings and the clinical outcome of patients with acute chest pain. Utilize appropriate noninvasive studies to assess the risk of acute coronary syndrome. Apply best-practice strategies in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. Recognize the benefits, drawbacks and challenges of nuclear medicine. Apply best-practice strategies in the use of cardiac CT to triage patients presenting with acute chest pain in the emergency department. Determine which patients would benefit most from coronary CTA. Apply best-practice protocol for the use of CT examinations to appropriately evaluate, diagnose and treat various disorders that present as acute aortic syndromes. Utilize appropriate noninvasive studies to assess risk of acute coronary syndrome. Cite the benefits and limitations of electrocardiogram, biomarkers and imaging. Examine the value of coronary calcium scoring in the acute chest pain setting. Explain the value and limitations of plaque characterization by CTA and explain how plaque is characterized by contrast and noncontrast CT. Implement strategies to determine when utilization of cardiac CT for calcium scoring is indicated for the chest pain patient.
