2 Overview Primary care physicians, rheumatologists and chiropractors are commonly the first providers of spine care to patients experiencing back pain, neck pain or radiating extremity pain. It is important for the clinician to identify such common conditions and initiate appropriate treatment. In addition, it is imperative for the clinician to recognize potentially more serious spinal pathologies so that the patient can be referred for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. This one-day comprehensive course includes multidisciplinary didactic presentations by medical spine specialists, spinal surgeons, and pain management physicians. It also includes demonstrations of focused neck and back examinations. Objectives Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: Recognize and diagnose common spine conditions Discuss various treatment options for spine conditions Perform a concise and thorough spine exam Recognize red flags conditions that merit urgent consideration Identify when a patient needs to be referred to a spine specialist for further diagnosis or treatment Target Audience The course is directed to the clinician of patients with back or neck pain and other spinal disorders. This includes family practitioners, internists, rheumatologists and chiropractors. 4 General Information Location Parking There is free parking at at the W. 28th St. and Franklin St. lot. This lot is close to the back entrance of the hospital, which is also the closest entrance for the Castele Learning Center where the lectures take place. Accreditation The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Participants claiming CME credit from this activity may submit the credit hours to the American Osteopathic Association for Category 2 credit. Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Ohio State Chiropractic Board Board-Approved CE Sponsor. The Ohio Board of Nursing will accept at face value the number of contact hours awarded for an educational activity that has been approved for CE by a nationally accredited system of CE approval. Therefore the 6.75 physician AMA PRA Category 1 Credits will be accepted for nursing credits. Nurses from other states should contact their State Board of Nursing.
