2 CARDIOLOGY UPDATE September 30 - October 2, 2004 Carmel, California This course will address the most current diagnostic and therapeutic advances in cardiovascular disease. We have chosen topics directly relevant to patient care and assembled a faculty well known for their expertise in each area. By limiting the scope to the latest developments in each field, we have been able to include a broad range of topics including heart failure, coronary artery disease and adult congenital heart disease. The course is intended for practicing cardiologists and internists with a special interest in cardiology, as well as cardiac nurse practitioners and nurse specialists. This course is presented by the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, and is sponsored by the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES An attendee completing this course should be able to discuss: The role of b-type natriuretic peptide in heart failure diagnosis; When to consider device therapy in heart failure; The role of contrast echocardiography and new information in non-invasive testing in coronary artery disease; New information on nutrition and the heart and lipid management; ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 13.5 category 1 credits toward the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits he/she actually spent in the activity. The California State Board of Registered Nursing accepts courses approved by the AMA for category 1 credit as meeting the continuing education requirements for license renewal. Nurses from states other than California should inquire with their local State Board for specific continuing education policies. New advances in treatment of coronary artery disease including drug-eluting stents and the percutaneous repair of valvular lesions; The diagnosis and management of cardiogenic shock; New information on pharmacogenomics in heart failure therapy; The expected complications and outcome in the adult with treated congenital heart disease.
