2 2015 Program Presented by The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF) in collaboration with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL), this one and a half day conference will include presentations by world-renowned quality-of-life researchers, surgeons involved in Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) measurement, patient advocates, payers, device industry representatives and regulators. Each panel will be followed by a discussion period that will engage stakeholders in thought-provoking dialogue. The meeting will conclude with a Mentoring Luncheon for faculty and trainees (surgical residents and junior quality of life researchers) to solidify the establishment of cross-disciplinary training relationships. Intended Audience This program is intended for surgeons of all specialties who are interested in learning national and international best practices for patient-reported outcome (PRO) measurement in clinical care and outcomes research. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: Develop strategies for making surgical PRO research data more accessible and interpretable to clinicians, patients and payers to improve the quality of healthcare; Discuss and develop consensus around methodological issues related to PRO measurement in surgery including newer psychometric methods such as Rasch Measurement Theory and Item-Response Theory; Formulate a research agenda for PRO measurement in surgery and identify strategies and mechanisms to study issues deemed most important and timely; Foster relationships between surgeons (represented by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF) and the quality of life research community represented by the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL).
