2 HEADS UP PEDIATRIC CONFERENCE NEEDS ASSESSMENT Pediatric HEENT Improving Outcomes for Pediatric Patients. This course will provide an opportunity for pediatricians, family practitioners and other primary care providers to speak one-on-one with nationally recognized specialists. This year s course, set against the scenic Napa Valley, features three keynote speakers. David B. Granet, MD, FACS, FAAP, FAAO, Professor of Pediatric Ophthalmology at UC San Diego will discuss differential diagnosis and management of the red eye. He will also present his popular lecture on pediatric ophthalmology pearls. Jesse Joad, MD will discuss the emerging wave of new overthe-counter cold remedies. Harlan R. Muntz, MD, FACS, FAAP Professor of Pediatric Otolaryngology, University of Utah will address obstructive sleep apnea, surgical therapy for sinusitis and infant stridor. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Pediatricians Family Practitioners Other Primary Care Providers EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES By attending this conference, attendees should be able to: Gain understanding of the efficacy of new over-the-counter cold remedies and what to tell your patients. List the latest therapies for more common congenital and infection problems of the eyes, ears and upper respiratory tract. Develop knowledge of the most recent management techniques of two common pediatric problems obstructive sleep apnea and infant stridor. ACCREDITATION The University of California, Davis, Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Physician Credit: The Office of Continuing Medical Education of the University of California, Davis, Health System (School of Medicine, Medical Center and Medical Group) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. AAFP: Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. The following may apply CME Category 1 credit for license renewal: Physician Assistant: The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) states that AMA PRA Category 1 Credits are acceptable for continuing medical education requirements for recertification. Registered Nurse: The California Board of Registered Nursing accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits toward license renewal. On the BRN license renewal form, report the number of hours you attended (up to 11 hours of credit) and fill in CME Category 1 for the provider number. 2

5 CALIFORNIA AB 1195 With the passage of California Assembly Bill 1195, signed November 2005, continuing medical education courses with patient care components are required to include curricula in the subject of cultural and linguistic competency. It is the intent of the bill, which went into effect on July 1, 2006, to encourage physicians and surgeons, CME providers in the state of California, and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to meet the cultural and linguistic concerns of a diverse patient population through appropriate professional development. 7 ENROLLMENT AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION SPACE IS LIMITED- ENROLL EARLY Tuition is $220 for all practitioners including UCDHS and UCD School of Medicine volunteer faculty, alumni, faculty and staff. Tuition includes lunch and afternoon refreshment breaks on Thursday and Friday, continental breakfast on Friday, a course syllabus and continuing medical education units.
