2 2012 Annual Meeting Activity Description and target audience The target audience for this meeting includes dermatologists in private practice and in academic medicine, physician assistants, and nursing staff. This educational activity will update practitioners on the latest medical knowledge available from medical literature, clinical experience and research. The selection of speakers has been designed to cover knowledge and practice gaps for attendees in the areas of general medicine updates, treatment guidelines, practice guidelines, new medications and their use along with side effects, and legislative issues affecting the specialty of dermatology. Educational Objectives At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to: Describe the process for selecting an Electronic Health Record system and federal requirements for meaningful use. Identify the new FDA guidelines for sunscreens to be able to explain them to their patients. Discuss the latest research and treatments for cutaneous T cell lymphoma. Discuss the evaluation and management of chronic pruritus. Recognize unusual presentations of dermatologic conditions. Identify the effects of obesity on the skin. Evaluate the patient with female pattern hair loss. Review legislative issues affecting North Carolina dermatologists. Discuss new medical research presented by North Carolina dermatology residents. Evaluate and manage patients with lichen planus. Outline the new continuing medical education requirements for dermatologists. Discuss hormonal therapy for acne. Analyze the data for various medical treatments for actinic keratoses. Review updates from the AAD. Discuss the evaluation and treatment of melanoma patients. Recognize when to refer a melanoma patient to a surgical oncologist. Recognize how to incorporate cosmetic dermatology into a general dermatology practice. Recognize and treat bites and stings from marine animals and plants. Accreditation This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the North Carolina Medical Society through the joint sponsorship of the Wake Area Health Education Center and the North Carolina Dermatology Association. The Wake Area Health Education Center is accredited by the North Carolina Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Disclosure Wake AHEC adheres to ACCME Essential Areas and policies regarding industry support of continuing medical education. Commercial support for the program and faculty relationships within the industry will be disclosed at the activity. 3 2012 Annual Meeting Credit Wake Area Health Education Center designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The North Carolina Dermatology Association Annual Meeting (Program #358100) is recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology for AAD Recognized CME credit(s) and may be used towards the American Academy of Dermatology s Continuing Medical Education Award. Additional Credit Other health professionals will receive Wake AHEC CEU and a certificate of attendance from an AMA PRA Category 1 credit TM activity. These certificates are accepted by the NC boards for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses. License requirements are subject to change. Wake AHEC recommends that participants contact their licensing boards for specific questions. Wake Area Health Education Center will provide 1.1 Continuing Education Units (11.25 contact hours) to participants upon completion of this activity. Meeting Highlights Program Chair Susan Sanders, MD, has assembled an outstanding faculty who will address current topics of interest, and in a new feature, participants will hear from a resident from each of North Carolina s academic dermatology residency programs. Other meeting features for your enjoyment include the welcome reception and Saturday evening reception with entertainment by noted local jazz pianist Ed Paolantonio. The annual business meeting will include the induction of 2012 officers. Finally, an exhibit area will be available presenting products and services of interest to physicians. The attire is business casual for the meeting and social events. Meeting Registration The registration fee for this meeting is $175 for member physicians, $225 for non-member physicians, $100 for emeritus/retired physicians, $150 for PA/NP in member practice, and $175 for PA/NP in nonmember practice. Residents and medical students may attend free of charge. Registration fees include the three half days of meeting sessions, the Friday evening reception, two continental breakfasts, the Saturday evening reception, and daily breaks. Deadline / Registration Cancellation Please note that refunds of registration fees will not be made after Thursday, January 5. Refunds, less $25, will be made for cancellations received prior to that date.
