Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine Dear Colleague, On behalf of Norton Healthcare, the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky, it is our privilege to invite you to participate in the Kentucky Statewide Trauma and Emergency Medicine Symposium Now in its fourth year in joint sponsorship, this event provides an exciting opportunity for health care professionals seeking innovative approaches to trauma and emergency care. The program will cover clinical management of the trauma patient, including pre-hospital care, resuscitation, acute care and rehabilitation. Designed for the team approach, this multidisciplinary forum will feature national and local physicians, nurses, medical examiners and other experts. 3 Conference Program PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS GENERAL SESSIONS Pre-hospital Burns Course Wednesday, October 28, 2009 Location: The Brown Hotel Burns are a common cause of accidental death and injury, and experts know that proper pre-hospital care may enhance a burn patient's survival and decrease the risk or duration of long-term disability. The treatment of pre-hospital burns will be discussed. This course does not have a limited attendee number for registration. Cost: $ :30 A.M Registration 8:00 A.M. 12:00 P.M. Course Objectives: 1. Identify the role of medical control in managing the burn patient in the pre-hospital setting. 2. Determine the magnitude and severity of a burn injury. 3. The APLS Course focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis and initiation of treatment of many pediatric medical and surgical emergencies during the time the patient s condition is being stabilized in the clinic or emergency department. Major topics to be addressed include Pediatric Assessment, Pediatric Airway, Central Nervous System, Medical Emergencies, Cardiovascular System, and Trauma. Advanced Airway and Advanced Trauma Procedures skill stations will be included. The course will require advance acquisition of the textbook APLS: The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Resource and independent study and completion of online Check Your Knowledge questions for six chapters.
