2 About the Conference Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Each year, about 600,000 Americans die from heart disease that s 1 in every 4 deaths. This conference will enable participants to utilize strategies that will more effectively assess, treat and manage patients with STEMI, cardiac arrest and heart failure. The sessions are designed to enhance the participant s knowledge and will include clinical topics on STEMI and Non-STEMI guidelines, STEMI impersonators, high quality CPR techniques, post cardiac arrest therapeutic hypothermia, and managing heart failure in the community. Objectives Through lectures, discussions, and audiovisuals the participant will be able to: Review current NC and national statistics for STEMI, cardiac arrest and heart failure. Describe the benefits of the Pit Crew approach to cardiac arrest resuscitation. Discuss Pit Crew CPR in urban and rural pre-hospital environments. Evaluate patients for therapeutic hypothermia therapy. Describe how to achieve and maintain hypothermia. List complications of hypothermia therapy. Describe other therapies bundled with hypothermia to optimize outcome. Identify strategies across the healthcare continuum to decrease hospital readmissions of patients with heart failure. Identify the most common pitfalls in STEMI recognition. Discuss the impact of the recent updates to the STEMI/NSTEMI Guidelines on practice. Target Audience This program is designed for emergency nurses, critical care nurses, emergency medical services and any other interested health care professionals seeking to improve care for patients with STEMI and cardiac arrest.
