Our vision is of a charity sector that is financially confident, dynamic and trustworthy. We provide a range of services to our members and the sector more widely. These include a broad training programme, a range of publications and how-to guides and a series of meetings and conferences throughout the year. We also work with other sector bodies to lobby the government and regulator on legal and regulatory issues affecting the sector. The organisation has grown consistently in recent years. We have over 2,200 individuals and charities as members who between them manage over 19.3bn. Following a restructure and development of a new strategy, we now need an outstanding Marketing Manager to support our ambitious plans. The post-holder will take the lead on developing the marketing strategy and managing our marketing plans with responsibility for achieving targets and objectives for membership recruitment, membership retention and event marketing, using a mix of direct response channels and promotions, as well as creatively supporting our partnerships with companies. The successful individual will transform the relationship with priority audiences through development and implementation of the marketing strategies. They will also have to set marketing standards and best practice across the organisation. This is a challenging and varied role and requires the post-holder to be comfortable with managing and delivering concurrent campaigns and projects as well as regularly 1

2 scheduled activities. The successful candidate will be experienced and driven, and needs to be extremely well organised to manage a high workload. They will also be an excellent communicator in order to work well with managers internally and create compelling marketing propositions externally. Responsibilities This job description outlines the key accountabilities of, and output required from, the post-holder. It is not a definitive list and the role will change and evolve over time with the new strategy. Planning and co-ordination Develop the marketing strategy to deliver the aims and objectives as well as delivering marketing plans for major activities and projects. To oversee all marketing activities as well as directly deliver campaigns. To act as internal consultant on the marketing opportunities for CFG on all projects and initiatives. To co-ordinate all marketing work with the communications, membership, professional development and partnership teams and integrate plans. Work with the membership and events teams to ensure the most efficient use of our CRM system for marketing. To make recommendations for, and manage the buying and maintenance of, marketing data. Support internal communications and co-ordination of marketing activities, ensuring awareness of activities taking place and appropriate mechanisms for handling responses. Research and positioning To lead on market and competitor monitoring, market research and customer insights to maximise marketing activities, support product development and identify potential strategic partner relationships. Embed an effective marketing and customer focused culture at CFG. To work with the Communications Manager to support the development of CFG s brand and positioning strategy and visual identity, and manage implementation for marketing. Ensure consistent expression of CFG s brand and positioning in marketing materials. Budgets and monitoring To review and manage suppliers to ensure the most effective use of marketing budgets. To manage activities within set budgets and to monitor expenditure. Define key performance indicators for marketing activities and report on them. 2

3 Establish efficient systems of monitoring our use of electronic and web-based systems, the success of ing campaigns, the website, SEO, social media etc. Analyse results and make recommendations. Website and digital communications Ensure that marketing information on the website is kept accurate and up-todate and supports delivery of objectives. Ensure that the website works effectively for marketing including efficient responses to marketing campaigns. Identify new mechanisms for digital marketing and be a digital communications champion within CFG. Promote the widest possible use of appropriate electronic and web-based communications and social media in pursuit of CFG s marketing and ensure that there is a coherent approach to the full use of channels. Additional responsibilities Where relevant, line management of staff and volunteers, ensuring work is done promptly and accurately, and that cover is provided when they are absent. Conduct appraisals, balance workloads and schedules, and support development. To represent CFG at external events and membership meetings. To support the development of cross-function working. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of external factors that will influence the role. At all times, work proactively to promote CFG's equal opportunities policies, both in respect of service delivery and employment issues; and to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the post-holder, colleagues, members and visitors. 4 Person Specification Qualifications Essential Excellent standard of education including Maths GCSE and English A-Level or equivalent Desirable Educated to degree level CIM Membership Experience Experience working in a small/medium notfor-profit organisation Experience working in a small team Substantial experience and demonstrable record of success in leading, creating and delivering marketing strategies and programmes Proven experience of innovation and creativity in using digital techniques and channels to enhance marketing activity. Experience of using a CMS and bulk system Experience of using CRM systems and of data management Experience of Sitecore Skills/ Abilities Knowledge/ Understanding Disposition Excellent command of English language both written and verbal Excellent copywriting and editorial skills Attention to detail Self-starter, able to use own initiative Ability to prioritise and manage workload within often exacting timeframes Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly across a small staff team Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements Familiar with a range of tools for monitoring electronic communications and web-based activities e.g. Google Analytics, Google Adwords etc. At least intermediate level use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) Good team player Friendly Highly professional Flexible and adaptable Familiarity with design software such as InDesign and Photoshop 4
