1 and Person Specification Job Title: Head of nternal Communications Reports to: irector of Communications epartment: Communications Hours: 37.5 hours per week Salary range: Job Type: Permanent ate: May 2015 Job Summary: high profile and effective internal communications strategy is necessary to support the charity in the delivery of charitable income required by the hospital of at least 50m per year and the Hospital in meeting its strategic objectives. The Head of nternal Communications will lead on developing and implementing an effective internal communications strategy for both organisations. The Head of nternal Communications will jointly line manage the intranet content manager and play a key strategic role in the content strategy for internal publications some of which are delivered by a senior editor in the brand team. The role reports into the irector of Communications (also a joint role between the Charity and hospital) and is part of a joint communications team which is guided by the principle of the child first and always. The post holder will sit in the senior management team of both organisations Main duties and responsibilities Strategy To develop and deliver complex, internal communications strategies that align with the broader communications strategies and input into the overall strategies of both organisations To provide leadership in internal communications for both organisations particularly addressing the issues raised in the regular staff surveys To measure the effectiveness of internal communications messages and channels on an on-going basis and make recommendations to review and amend the strategy as appropriate To represent the charity and hospital at senior level discussions, advising on communications plans, strategy and any communications challenges and issues that may arise To work with the executive team to develop communications campaigns to assist the organisations in meeting its strategic objectives To work with the Human Resources departments to improve staff engagement To provide strategic advice and expertise to enable opportunities for feedback, involvement and contribution to decision making To ensure messages from senior management and the Board are properly reflected in communications to internal stakeholders nternals communications mechanisms and tactics

2 To develop appropriate relationships with key internal stakeholders and advise and support them in developing their own internal communications programmes, ensuring consistency with the overall internal communications strategy To be responsible for leadership communications taking regular direction and advising the executive teams, including chief executives of both organisations To be responsible for managing internal communications channels including e newsletters, team briefs and organising open sessions To play a leading role in redeveloping and improving the intranet as a key internal communications tool, working alongside the ntranet Content Manager To work with the ntranet Content Manager to ensure that locally-generated intranet content meets organisational objectives for internal comms, and ensure standards of communication are kept high To play a key role in organising the annual staff conference, and manage internal communications around the GM and other key internal meetings Project representation on internal communications Represent internal communications on projects as required to ensure that project managers take note of internal comms needs evelop internal communications plans for a range of projects, initiatives and campaigns, and implement where appropriate Management To manage three internal communications staff To support line manager and deputise where necessary To regularly report on internal communications activity as required to senior management To manage the internal communications budget and approve all invoices Mandatory Other To develop good relationships with colleagues in other departments across the charity and the hospital ny other activities required by the irector of Communications Other qualifications Considerable experience leading on internal communications for large complex public or charity sector organisations. xperience of managing communications around large scale complex change programmes is extremely desirable.
