(WLT) was formed in 2006 as a registered charitable company limited by guarantee. The Trust manages eight facilities on behalf of Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council, and in partnership with Seaford Head School, Ringmer Community College, Priory School and Newhaven Town Council. The Wave Team bring considerable experienced in the management of all aspects of community leisure, sports and recreation services and activities, such as leisure centres, swimming pools, health and fitness suites and athletics tracks, as well as associated activities. The post in context Over the years Wave has had one fundamental and driving purpose of Inspiring Active Lifestyles and as such is determined to deliver to the Vision of being at the heart of the improvement of health and wellbeing in our community. The five key pillars underpinning Wave s Vision are; Achieving Excellence, Business Sustainability, Engaging Staff and Partners, Customer Choice and Delivering to the Community and it s the final pillar that the Active Lifestyle Manager will focus on; delivering into the heart of the Community, within and beyond the four walls of the leisure centres, inspiring people to be active and to adopt healthy lifestyles. In an attempt to address the Sustainability Value and to ensure ongoing participation, as part of the outreach work, it will be essential for the post holder to establish pathway initiatives, for example; training community leaders to continue activities once community interventions have come to an end, linking taster sessions to community venues so activities remain local, pointing participants to partner clubs and organisations so they are less reliant on funded programmes. Purpose of the Post This role will focus on four key areas: 1. Sport. 2. Physical Activity. 3. Public Health. 4. Partnerships. Underpinning these are a further five key priority areas, namely; Early Years, Children and Young People, Adults, Older Person s and the Disabled. To ensure that there is clear direction and a corporate approach to managing these areas the post holder will be required to develop both strategy and policy documents to support the work of the Active Lifestyles Team and provide clarity and identify key elements of work to achieve three primary objectives: 1. Increase Participation. 2. Reduce Health Inequalities.

2 3. Improve Accessibility and Social Inclusion. Summary of Main Duties and Activities Sport Responsible for line managing both the School Sports Coordinator and the Aquatics Development Coordinator to achieve performance goals highlighted within Wave s Business Plan. Responsible for generating interest and increasing participation in sport either as a Wave initiative or through partnership working with Clubs. Work with Sales and Marketing to produce promotional material and displays to maximise Wave s profile within the community and participation levels. Liaise and work with relevant organisations and agencies including youth services, schools, clubs, sports coaches and sporting governing bodies to increase participation within Sport. Review the opportunities to expand the number of Sport Clubs (external and internal) accessing Wave Venues. Deliver in line with targets set out in the Lewes District Council Annual Service Delivery Plan 2015/2016. Co-ordinate the Sportivate Programme, working with schools, sports group, associations, individuals and sites to develop a popular, vibrant and stimulating programme of activities. Co-ordinate the delivery of the Seaford Para Games and look to expand the range of opportunities for the disabled. Physical Activity Develop a Physical Activity Strategy (PAS) covering the five core areas of: Early Years, Children and Young People, Adults, The Older Person and the Disabled. Develop and report against the Lewes District Council Annual Service Delivery Plan (ASDP). Implement initiatives outlined with the PAS and ASDP. Responsible for managing the Exercise to Music Co-ordinator and supporting Holiday Scheme/Play Scheme Assistants. Ensure the development and maintenance of a vibrant and dynamic exercise to music timetable and cross company holiday activity programme. Develop a series of campaigns to promote physical activity within and beyond Wave venues. Work in partnership with Area Managers to improve site occupancy and participation levels by introducing new and promoting current physical activity initiatives. Work closely with in-house staff teams to develop and progress all possible opportunities linked to Active Lifestyles and Public Health. Public Health Seek to build on current and introduce new initiatives relating to the positive health of the community including the prevention and on-going management of health-related conditions. To develop and coordinate the current Otago Falls Prevention Programme, Rebalance Weight Management Programme and the Step Into Wellbeing initiative. To liaise and support Wave professionals with the promotion and expansion of the GP referral and Cardiac Rehab Programme. Seek opportunities to expand the programme of public health initiatives into other areas, for example Diabetes and COPD.

3 Explore opportunities to work with partnering organisations and funding bodies to introduce new public health focused initiatives. Maintain strong links with the Commissioning Managers for funded programmes and ensure data and progress reports are submitted in line with agreements. Develop and coordinate the delivery of a Town Council focused health and wellbeing programme of activities across all WLT venues and the wider community. Develop a range of Healthy Work Place initiatives for corporate partners to participate. Partnerships Conduct and maintain a key stakeholder analysis to support the development of an effective communications strategy with partnering organisations. Develop working relationship with relevant external partners to aid the establishment and delivery of programmes including PCT, NHS, Town, District and County Councils, SCDA, Sport England, Active Sussex, etc). Represent Wave at relevant stakeholders meetings and conferences. Actively work with Wave s Funding Officer to develop a range of externally funded initiatives. Build and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders. Provide advice and support to partners and stakeholders in relation to projects and activity development. Measuring, Reviewing and Enhancing Accurately collect and record data necessary for ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation purposes. Analyse project data and Identify case studies and good practice/stories for effective communication of the project, to enable Wave and partners to evaluate performance. Work with instructors and coaches to improve course quality. Review all programmes delivered by Wave on a frequent basis including commissioned projects. Reporting Produce monitoring reports, statistics and evaluations of any programmes delivered as set out within the reporting framework or when required. Present reports to the Senior Management Team, Members of the Board or external bodies/conferences as required. Finance 1. Support the Head of Finance with the production of budgets and on-going monitoring of performance against budgets. 2. Responsible for the production of annual Business Plans for responsible areas. 3. Assist with the performance monitoring of designated areas of business. 4. Ensure that all Financial Procedures and controls relating to activities are followed and policies implemented and adhered to. General To be involved in the recruitment process of any external staff needed to deliver the Active Lifestyles programmes.

4 To manage any budget allocated to the role. This will include budget forecasting, expenditure, analysis and review. To work with the marketing team to ensure all promotional and marketing services are delivered when needed. Attendance at evening and weekend events may be required on occasions. Undertake any other duties as requested commensurate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.

5 Person Specification Essential Knowledge Skills & Abilities Experience Good proven knowledge and understanding of current sports, physical activity and health structures, strategies, policies and initiatives on a local basis. Thorough working knowledge of the health benefits of physical activity in relation to primary and secondary prevention of medical conditions including a sound understanding of weight management principals and of exercise and the implications for older people. Knowledge of Exercise Referral schemes. Ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative to make decisions in an effective and efficient manner. Proven ability to work under pressure to meet targets. Strong IT skills. Excellent organisational skills. Proven experience within sports/leisure/fitness environment with an emphasis on health and physical activity. Proven track record of managing a team of staff to develop sport and physical activity programmes designed to increase participation. Desirable General knowledge of the determinants of health and health improvement principles. An understanding of the barriers to regular participation in sport or physical activity. Ability to provide excellent customer care Friendly, outgoing personality with an ability to get on with people. Track record of successful funding raising applications. Experience of working as part of an Exercise Referral Scheme. Experience of working with special population clients.

6 Qualifications A recognised sports, fitness or related qualification to at least Level 3. Exercise referral experience. Professional or industry standard relevant qualifications. Current Appointed Persons First Aid Certificate & Safeguarding Certificate. Exercise for Older People/Special Populations Certification (e.g. OTAGO/ Chair Based/ Postural Stability or similar). BACPR Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation. Other Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills (written and oral). Strong and effective communicator and negotiator.
