3 About VTCT VTCT is a specialist awarding organisation for the Sport, Active Health & Fitness sector. Our full qualification package also covers Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing & Barbering, Complementary Therapies, Hospitality & Catering and Business Support. VTCT is a Government approved awarding organisation offering National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and other Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs). VTCT has awarded world class qualifications since 1962 and has been at the forefront of developing the vocational system of qualifications in the United Kingdom. VTCT also awards qualifications internationally; countries include Italy, Malta, Cyprus, Kenya, India and South Africa. Further expansion into overseas markets is one of VTCT s goals. VTCT is involved in many of the new initiatives being introduced into the education system including the Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE)/Wales (SASW), the embedding of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS), Principal Learning Wales, and Wider Essential Skills Wales. At the same time we are keeping abreast of many other developments in line with Government reform. VTCT will continue to strengthen its presence in the vocational qualifications market in the United Kingdom, where qualifications from VTCT are offered at over 700 colleges of further education and private training centres. 4 Making strides into Sport, Active Health & Fitness Our portfolio of qualifications in Sport, Active Health & Fitness has grown extensively over the last few years and we now offer a comprehensive suite of qualifications for the industry. VTCT prides itself on offering qualifications that meet the needs of the industry now and in the future ensuring learners have the greatest chance of pursuing their desired career. We also work collaboratively with centres to develop programmes tailored to meet individual market needs. We offer NVQs and VRQs, with levels ranging from Entry Level to Level 5. We have strong links with SkillsActive and REPs and are determined to become the market leading awarding organisation in this footprint. The qualifications At VTCT we have been working with industry specialists, employers and Skills Active to develop a comprehensive portfolio of Sport, Active Health & Fitness qualifications that will be available from August Qualifications range from Level 1 to Level 5 and include the new SASE/ SASW Apprenticeship frameworks, the Foundation Learning Tier (FLT), and NVQs and VRQs. All qualifications have been developed in line with the needs of employers and to maximise public funding opportunities. 5

An introduction to kettlebells: level 2 taster course Course overview A introduction to the benefits of Kettlebell training, learning basic moves, enough to incorporate into training sessions and provide a taster for the Kettlebell level 2 course. Hours: 3 hours CPD Entry requirements This course is designed for Sport, Active Health & Fitness tutors, teachers and fitness instructors with a good general knowledge and understanding of exercise physiology Cost: 660 for a maximum of 12 delegates Essentials of exercise: prescription and performance Course overview This highly interactive workshop covers the latest exercise prescription guidelines for health related fitness. The day will cover a mix of underpinning theoretical knowledge and practical performance of many commonly used exercises. The day will look at common faults in performance and the essential elements of effective exercise programming. Hours: 7 hours CPD Entry requirements VTCT tutors, teachers and assessors who are qualified in gym instructing and/or personal training. Ideal for anyone teaching or assessing the gym instructor or personal training course. VTCT s Linx2Record e-portfolio Gym manual VTCT's new learning resource for students undertaking the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym) (AF20092) will be available this autumn. The 100-page manual costs only 15 and covers the knowledge, understanding and skills within the Instructing Gym-based Exercise unit of the qualification. This new resource provides guidance and activities that reinforce learning and develop practical skills. It focuses on preparing, instructing and supervising, and concluding and reviewing gym-based exercise sessions. The role of the instructor is diverse and requires thorough knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of areas (i.e. anatomy and physiology, exercise training principles, client support and motivation, health and safety, programme and session planning and competence in teaching/instructing sessions).
