This dcument cntains the assessment task and assessment recrding dcumentatin and includes guidance t enable yu t assess the OCR Level 2 Listen t respnd in a cnstructive manner unit. This unit is internally assessed by centre staff (eg, teachers, trainers, supprt wrkers, carers, assessrs) and externally mderated by OCR. Units are graded Pass r Fail. 4 1.2 Unit cntent Learning Outcme Assessment Criteria The Learner will: 1. Be able t recrd relevant infrmatin frm spken discurse. The Learner can: 1.1 Use techniques t recrd relevant infrmatin frm: extended explanatins presentatins. 2. Be able t accurately cnvey infrmatin frm spken multi-step instructins and narratives. 2.1 Cnvey infrmatin frm spken multistep instructins and narratives in a relevant frmat: repeat summarise. 3. Understand hw t respnd cnstructively when exchanging pinins and judgements. 3.1 Use: language nn-verbal signals which make cnstructive criticism acceptable when respnding. 3.2 Offer criticism in cnstructive ways. 4 OCR Level 2 Listening and Respnding Skills
5 1.3 Submitting the claim and candidate wrk All candidates wrk must be assessed and cmplete befre being submitted t the OCR examiner-mderatr. Only wrk that meets all f the assessment criteria shuld be submitted fr mderatin. Once the assessment is cmplete, yu need t make a claim fr certificatin and t submit wrk t the OCR examiner-mderatr: Certificatin claims are made nline via Interchange. Fr infrmatin and guidance n hw t build an nline claim please refer t the OCR Admin Guide and the Step-by-step guides (which is available at: As sn as yu have submitted yur claim nline, yu need t send the candidates wrk (fr all f the candidates fr whm yu have made a claim) t yur OCR examiner-mderatr. Yu will already have received cntact details fr yur OCR examiner-mderatr when yu registered yur candidates. Failure t submit an nline claim will result in yur examiner-mderatr being unable t mderate the wrk. What needs t be submitted t the OCR examiner-mderatr? Yu shuld cmplete and send the fllwing t the OCR examiner-mderatr. Fr each candidate, yu will need t submit: A cmpleted Assessr s Observatin Recrd (the frm is cntained in this dcument) and any supprting ntes. Fr each claim yu make (which may include a number f candidates), yu will need t submit: An Assessment Frnt Sheet (cntained in this dcument and available t dwnlad at: Hw much evidence needs t be submitted? If yu are sending ntes t supprt a candidate s wrk, they must be clearly referenced t the unit and the candidate. It is expected that nly final versins f supprting ntes are sent t the OCR examiner-mderatr. Supprting ntes can include feedback that was given t the candidate as part f their summative assessment. Where feedback is included, it must be in relatin t summative assessment nly. The purpse fr including feedback in the supprting ntes is t indicate t the OCR examinermderatr hw the candidate met the assessment criteria. 6 1.4 Assessing the Level 2 Listen t respnd in a cnstructive manner unit Preparing fr Assessment: The fllwing assessment will need t be cnducted under the cnditins described in the OCR Cambridge Award/Certificate in English Centre Handbk. Assessrs may select the tpic (cntext/subject) f the assessment as apprpriate t the candidate. Candidates are allwed t prepare fr their assessment by researching the tpic s that they can actively participate in the assessment. It is recmmended that this is carried ut in class time s that all learners have the same pprtunity fr preparatin. Preparatin ntes and/r scripts must nt be used during the assessment. The exceptin t this at Level 2 is Assessment Criteria 1.1, which requires candidates t recrd relevant infrmatin which can be used later in the assessment. Centres must take care t select a tpic that is apprpriate t the level f the candidate s ability and des nt create any accessibility barriers. Tpics can be thse relating t ther subject areas, where delivery f the teaching fr this unit is embedded in ther subject teaching prgrammes. Evidence f summative assessment must be prduced fr each candidate, even where mre than ne candidate is being assessed n their cntributins t the same assessment task. The OCR Assessr s Observatin Recrd is intended fr the summative (final) assessment f a candidate but assessrs can use them during frmative assessment t help when giving feedback t the candidate. Recrds f frmative assessment must nt be sent t the OCR examinermderatr. Incrrectly cmpleted Assessr s Observatin Recrds may cause claims t be withdrawn by the OCR examiner-mderatr. Please ensure that all bservatin recrds are cmpleted clearly s that there is n ambiguity in the decisin f the centre assessr. Recrding assessment decisins: When cmpleting the Assessr s Observatin Recrd, centres must nt merely repeat the wrding f the assessment criteria but clearly say hw the candidate has met the criteria. Fr example, the cmment,...made relevant cntributins t the activity is unhelpful, because it des nt identify hw the cntributin was relevant. Centre assessrs shuld fully supprt their assessment decisins with ntes that describe candidate activity, bservatins and respnses. These shuld be submitted t the OCR examinermderatr, s that the centre assessment decisin can be agreed and the claim verified. There is n requirement fr vide r audi recrdings f any centre- assessed evidence fr the mderated Cambridge Award/Certificate in English qualificatins. Grup size and cmpsitin: The size and cmpsitin f grups acceptable fr this assessment are highlighted in the Tutr Guidance sectin f the assessment task. Centres must ensure that all candidates participating in the assessment task are able t cntribute effectively withut disadvantaging thers. 6 OCR Level 2 Listening and Respnding Skills
7 Timings f the assessment: The length f time fr the unit assessment is given in the task. Where the timing f the assessment is less than the prescribed time, it is up t the centre assessr t judge if the candidate has met the required standard within the time. If the centre assessr is unhappy with the evidence presented during the allcated time f the assessment, they shuld cnsider if the candidate can demnstrate cmpetence fr the unit at this level. 8 1.5 Assessment task Centre Assessr Guidance fr the assessment task Please read these instructins carefully befre beginning the assessment task. Yu shuld print the Learner Guidance sheet fr the candidate, r read the instructins t the candidate, s that they are clear abut what they need t d fr the assessment task. The assessment task requires candidates t listen and respnd t anther persn t demnstrate that they can understand and be understd. The cntext in this assessment task is hw t drink enugh water. It can be changed t suit the candidate. Where the cntext is changed, the centre assessr must ensure that the candidate still has pprtunity t meet the assessment criteria during the assessment. Fr extended listening tasks, pdcasts are allwed if apprpriate. Where apprpriate, the assessr may use mre than ne task in rder t meet the assessment criteria. If yu want t change the cntext we strngly recmmend that yu change nly the text that has been underlined in the task. The remaining instructins fr the candidate relate t the cmpetence they are expected t demnstrate t meet the assessment criteria. In rder t ensure that the assessr can cncentrate n bserving and assessing the candidate, it is recmmended that the assessr des nt participate in the assessment. Where additinal input may be required t meet an assessment criteria, the centre assessr may put questins related t the assessment t the candidate. These must be asked after the assessment activity has taken place. It may be necessary fr the assessr t prmpt the candidate t make sufficient cntributin in rder t be assessed. Prmpts shuld nly be used where abslutely necessary. Candidates are allwed t use ntes r scripts frm AC1.1 during the remainder f the assessment. The assessment shuld take n mre than 20 minutes in ttal. The number f peple required in the listening and respnding activity is tw (speaker and candidate). Fr AC1.1, respnses can be via a grup activity, as lng as candidates individually recrd their evidence. An example f apprpriate scripts fr use by the assessr is given belw. It can be used t ensure the candidate has pprtunity t meet all assessment criteria. The text may be rephrased t help candidate understanding, but shuld be repeated n mre than twice. Assessr identifies tpic f explanatin: Hw t drink enugh water. Assessr asks candidate(s) t recrd relevant infrmatin. Assessr reads the fllwing: Did yu knw that yu shuld drink abut 8 glasses f water a day? Drinking water every day gives yur skin a special glw, helps yu stay hydrated and helps yu maintain a healthy weight. There is n reasn why anyne shuld nt be able t drink enugh water. Drinking lts f water can help yu lse weight because it helps yu stay full when yu are 8 OCR Level 2 Listening and Respnding Skills
9 hungry, and can satisfy yur hunger fr junk fd. Here are 8 tips t make sure yu drink enugh water: Firstly, have a drink f water as sn as yu have listened t this! Secndly, make sure yu have a glass f water when yu wake up in the mrning, and befre yu g t bed. Thirdly, eat fds full f water. Watermeln, celery, cucumber, and lettuce are gd healthy chices. Furthly, have a glass f water with all f yur meals and snacks. That desn't mean yu can't have milk with dinner, r range juice with breakfast, yu can have bth! Fifth, have a glass r tw f water befre AND after all f yur wrkuts. When yu exercise, yu sweat ut all the liquids in yur bdy. It feels nice t replenish them with an ice cld glass f water after wrkuts. Sixth, instead f having a fizzy drink, r an alchlic beverage at a restaurant, take cntrl and have a glass f water. Seventh, when yu feel hungry because yu are bred, have a glass f water instead. Water can help satisfy yur hunger, and it helps with salty fd cravings. Eighth, every nce in a while, yu can reward yurself with a sda r a sugary juice bx - just make sure yu dn't get a reward every night! Yu can make drinking water mre enjyable by trying unsweetened tea. Tea adds n calries t water but it can prvide a wide range f flavur ptins, such as black, green, white, ribs, and herbal teas. Yu culd als try adding fruits, vegetables, r herbs fr flavur. Cnsider creating a pitcher f water in the fridge that cntains sliced cucumbers, mint, basil r citrus fruit. Dn t make excuses just drink mre! 10 Learner guidance fr the assessment task Fr this assessment, yu will listen and respnd t smene abut hw t drink enugh water. Yu need t: Listen very carefully thrughut the assessment and recrd what yu hear, using an apprpriate methd; Respnd t questins abut what yu have heard; Summarise what yu have heard, repeating details where necessary; Offer cnstructive criticism, respnding in a way that is supprtive. Remember t: Recrd the verall meaning f the explanatin/presentatin; Recrd specific detail frm the explanatin/presentatin; Offer cnstructive criticism using language that will nt upset the recipient; Offer cnstructive criticism while using nn-verbal gestures and signals that will nt upset the recipient; Offer cnstructive criticism in a way that is empathetic and understanding f the ther persn s views. 10 OCR Level 2 Listening and Respnding Skills

Language is thughtfully planned and empathetic t the exchange f pinins. 3.2 Offer criticism in cnstructive ways Assessr bservatin/questin: Candidate ffers cnstructive feedback/criticism in a way that is nn-threatening, and acceptable t the recipient.
