3 1 OVERVIEW This dcument details n testing XDS560v2 System Trace JTAG Emulatr s Ethernet prt with a Wi-Fi adapter. 2 HARDWARE TOOLS USED FOR TESTING - XDS560v2 System Trace JTAG Emulatr(XDS560V2 STM) - Netgear WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter - Amazn.cm: Netgear WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter: Electrnics - Linksys Wireless-G Bradband Ruter WRT54GL. 3 SOFTWARE TOOLS USED FOR TESTING Operating Systems Tested - Windws XP, Ubuntu Cde Cmpser Studi versin Tested RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE 4.1 THINGS TO NOTE 1. The detailed prcedure presented belw is specific t the hardware tls used fr testing purpses which include Netgear WNCE2001 and Linksys Wireless-G Bradband ruter. 2. One requirement fr setting up Netgear WNCE2001 Wi-Fi adapter is t discnnect all wireless cnnectins t the ruter during setup. 3. Step 2 is prbably nt practical fr crprate netwrks. Instead yu shuld setup a dedicated JTAG debug netwrk with a standalne ruter such as the Linksys Wireless-G Bradband ruter. 4. When the XDS560v2 is cnnected behind a wireless adapter finding the IP address f the XDS560v2 is a little mre difficult s a static IP setup is preferred. 4.2 SETTING LINKSYS WRT54GL WIRELESS ROUTER 1. Begin setup f yur Linksys Wireless Ruter by first plugging in the pwer. Give it 10 secnds r s t initialize. 2. Plug ne end f an Ethernet cable int yur laptp and the ther int ne f the prts labeled 1-4 n the ruter. 3. Open a web brwser windw n the cnnected cmputer and type int the address bar and press enter. A windw will pp up prmpting yu fr a username and passwrd t access the cnfiguratin page fr yur ruter. Enter admin fr bth the username and passwrd. 4. The setup page is as shwn belw Page 3 f 6

A user can custmize the settings if needed CALCULATE THE RANGE OF IP ADDRESSESS 6. Calculate the range f IP addresses that can be used t access the ruter based n Lcal IP Address field and the Subnet Mask field shwn in red bx in figure There are a lt f IP Address Range calculatrs available n the web like this ne 8. The IP Address Range fr Linksys WRT54GL s default settings is frm t Pick an address frm the range t be used as static IP fr XDS560V2 STM Emulatr. 10. Please recrd the address in this bx fr future use, fr example wuld be a valid address fr the Linksys ruter SETTING NETGEAR WNCE2001 Wi-Fi ADAPTER Please discnnect any wireless cnnectin t the ruter and/r remve the Ethernet cable currently cnnected t the cmputer. Yu may restre the cnnectin after the WNCE2001 installatin is cmplete. Cnnect the WNCE2001 t yur cmputer, using the Ethernet cable (included) and ne f the pwer cnnectin ptins. Page 4 f 6

5 Open yur Internet brwser and it will autmatically take yu t the setup page. Fllw the instructins n the setup page. The name f the wireless ruter is linksys in the ruter s default settings. Discnnect the Ethernet cable frm yur cmputer. 4.4 EMULATOR AND TEST SETUP Cnfigure XDS560V2 STM Emulatr t use static IP Address which was nted under step 10 f sectin The prcedure fr cnfiguring can be fund under sectin 7 in the linked dcument The emulatr is ready t be used frm Cde Cmpser Studi. Cnfigure CCS t use "Spectrum Digital XDS560V2 STM LAN Emulatr" fr Ethernet cnnectin and cnfigure the The Emulatr IP Address under the Cnnectins Prperties t the static IP Address which was nted under step 10 sectin Please nte that the Laptp which is used fr testing the emulatr shuld als be cnnected t the Linksys wireless ruter (wired r wireless). Figure 2 shws Spectrum Digital test setup fr testing the Emulatr s Ethernet prt ver Wi-Fi. The emulatr with Wi-Fi adapter cnnected t a dm6446 target is lcated 100 feet frm the wireless ruter. The laptp is cnnected wirelessly t the ruter and is lcated 100 feet frm the ruter. A simple ci test was perfrmed n the emulatr frm Cde Cmpser Studi n the Laptp. Page 5 f 6

6 5 ALTERNATE PROCEDURE XDS560V2 STM Emulatr is by default cnfigured t use DHCP. If the emulatr is nt cnfigured t use static IP, the varius ways t find the IP Address t the emulatr are: If yu have access t a cmputer which has Cde Cmpser Studi installed near t the emulatr, cnnect the emulatr t the cmputer s USB prt and fllw the instructins under sectin 6.1 in the linked dcument If suppse yu d nt have access t any PC near the emulatr, Frm the test PC s desktp launch Sd560v2Cnfg utility. Frm the Eth tab, click n FindEthernetDevices buttn. If the emulatr is cnnected t Wi-Fi adapter, the physical address f the emulatr is recgnized frm windws as the Wi-Fi adapter s MAC address and nt the Emulatr s MAC address. Sd560v2Cnfg utility uses discvery tl t determine the IP Address f the emulatr. The detailed explanatin f the discvery tl can be fund under sectin 5.6 in the linked dcument eadme.pdf. As the MAC address recgnized by the PC is nt the Emulatr s MAC address, the EthTab desn t shw any devices in the table. The discvery tl generates an arpcache.txt file lcated under <APPLICATION_DATA_DIR>/.spectrumdigital/ directry. Open the arpcache.txt file and match the Wi-Fi adapter s MAC address t find the IP address f XDS560V2 STM emulatr. 6 PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS Table 1 shws CIO test results perfrmed n the test setup frm varius distances.
