1 Telewrker Supprt Dcument Descriptin The Mitel Telewrker applicatin allws a Mitel IP telephne set t be used ff premise where ever a high speed internet cnnectin is available. All f the features f the Mitel phne are available as if used in the primary ffice including Autmatic Call Distributin, busy lamp displays, and paging alng with any ther features nrmally available n the Mitel telephne system lcated at the ffice. There are a few generatins f Mitel telephnes in use tday as Telewrker sets. Including the Mitel 5220 telephne which includes 14 prgrammable buttns with an Orange display and the 5224 telephne with 24 prgrammable buttns and a white display. The Telewrker phne when riginally cnfigured has an IP address entered int it which pints the telephne t a server lcated in the crprate ffice which allws it t cnnect t the Mitel 3300 system. Recmmendatins and requirements The Mitel Telewrker phne requires a bradband cnnectin t the internet, a minimum f a DSL cnnectin is required. Hwever a bradband cnnectin such as cable mdem is recmmended. In any cnfiguratin a ruter which can prvide an IP address using DHCP is required t activate the phne. Linksys part number BEFSR41 r equivalent r fr wireless WRT54G r equivalent is recmmended. There are different ptins fr internet access acrss the cuntry; unfrtunately sme areas have very limited service available. Befre cmmitting t prvide a Telewrker telephne t a cwrker yu shuld determine the available service and reliability. Cntact the lcal telephne cmpany and cable prvider t ask the fllwing questins. Fis r Cable mdems are the preferred Chice. Fis is a service in sme areas serviced by Verizn, if Fis is chsen yu will need t change the ruter t a recmmended r equivalent mdel. Ask what speed ptins are available, it is imprtant t knw what the uplad speed is as well as the dwnlad speed. Fr cable ask if they prvide a cable mdem r what the cst will be fr rental f the mdem. It is cmmn that the mdem will be rented fr an extra $5.00 per mnth. Ask if a ruter is prvided and what the cst will be t extend the service t where yu need the cmputer and Telewrker installed. Fr Fis yu will need t replace the ruter. (see instructins fr replacing a fis ruter) If DSL is the nly valid ptin ask what the highest speed available is. IDSL is nt recmmended because f the slwer speeds. In all ptins ask if they have a business grade service that prvides an immediate r guaranteed repair time. Generally the cst f this if available is t expensive but it is wrth asking. Internet service prvided by Dial up r satellite service is nt supprted. 2 Cnfiguratin Mst Telewrker phnes are prperly cnfigured befre they leave the ffice. When yu first plug the telephne in t a prper cnnectin, yu shuld see the fllwing n yur display. Nte: different mdels f telephnes and sftware versins may shw smething slightly different. Waiting fr DHCP shuld be fllwed by a lcal IP address. Yu shuld immediately see dwnlading n the secnd line n a slwer internet cnnectin this culd take up t 5 minutes a faster cnnectin can take as little as 1 minute. The display can cunt up as high as 260 befre actually cnnecting First time installatins may take lnger and new sftware may be dwnladed t yur phne during this prcess, d nt interrupt yur phne if it indicates it is being upgraded. Pwer fr the Telewrker Telephne Pwer can be cnnected t the Telewrker phne in ne f tw ways. An external pwer supply which is plugged int the tp crner f the telephne. See illustratin 3 In line pwer supply. The categry five cables are plugged int the inline pwer adapter with ne categry five cable ging t the ruter and ne cable ging t the back f the telephne. See illustratin 4 fr where the cable is plugged in n the telephne. If yu are using Verizn FIOS If yu are using Verizn Fis and want t change yur ruter t ne f the recmmended units. Yu will mst likely need t call Verizn t ask them t release current DHCP lease they have n yur ruter. This is nt a prblem fr them and I have made this call fr myself and thers n several ccasins. The biggest challenge is getting thrugh Verizn s self help menus t speak t a tech supprt persn. The number fr Verizn Fis is , this may be different in ther lcatins in the cuntry. When the peratr begins asking questins and after yu have identified yu are calling abut yur Fis Internet simply say Agent. Yu will then be prvided with a separate set f questins yu shuld reply with tech supprt. Depending n the time f day yu call yu will be presented with the ptin t hld r have a call back. This is yur chice. When the supprt persn answers tell them yu want them t release the current DHCP lease. Have yur new ruter already plugged in befre yu ask them t d this. Once they release the DHCP lease yur new ruter shuld begin t wrk within a minute r tw. Check fr internet access first and befre yu hang up with supprt. If yu are using the Verizn FIOS cnnectin fr yur televisin service yu may need t make separate arrangements fr Verizn t bring in anther cnnectin, sme ruters als have the cable TV cnnectin n them. 3 If yu have t prgram yur Telewrker telephne fr the first time use after setting it t the default cnfiguratin please fllw these steps. Use the Dial pad t enter the keys displayed in the Mitel Screem Generally * r # Apply Pwer t the phne and hld dwn the 7 key n the dial pad When the display shws cnfig Telewrker let g f the 7 key and press the * key n the dial pad fr yes. The display shuld give yu the ptin f chsing * =Delete r # =New. Press # fr new, Enter yur Telewrker IP address. If the crrect IP address is entered yu can remve and restre pwer t rebt the phne. If yu have t enter a new number r change the current number yu can enter the IP address using the dial pad. The curser will mve t the next grup after 3 digits are entered. If nly tw are required press the # key t advance t the next grup.. Ask yur supprt department fr yur Telewrker IP address. After entering press the arrw dwn key n yur telephne t cmplete entering the IP address. See illustratin 2 fr the key lcatins. At the next screen yu will be given the ptin t stre the changes r start again press the * key t stre the changes. Yur display will briefly shw that changes are being stred and yur phne shuld begin dwnlading. Once cmplete yur phne shuld be peratinal. In sme very slw cnnectins yur phne may rebt and start dwnlading again. If this cntinues t happen cntact Watsn Technical Supprt. If yur set has nt been registered against the Telewrker server yu may be asked t enter the TW passwrd. Please cntact supprt fr yur pass cde. Once entered the phne will shw accepted and restart. If yu have entered the wrng pass cde the phne will restart and present yu with this screen again. TW Pass cde was intentinally mitted. If yur set has nt been registered t the Mitel system yu may need t enter the set registratin cde. This cde is **1 fllwed by yur extensin number. If yur extensin is 210 yu wuld enter **1210 fllwed by the blue superkey. Sme sets will ask yu t use anther key and will be nted in the display. 4 This truble shting guide assumes the primary system is perating prperly. It is activated because it is receiving pwer but nt getting an IP Display shws DHCP: Discvery Display shws a valid IP address frm the netwrk but will nt g any further r cnnect. Example: Bting XX.XX.XX.XX address. The phne is nt getting a DHCP address but is cnnected t a switch. Generally because it is nt cnnected t a ruter which will prvide a DHCP address. The phne is cnnected t a switch and ruter but there is n internet access cnnected t the ruter, the prts may be blcked n the ruter r the incrrect Telewrker address was entered. Cnfirm the phne is cnnected t a ruter r switch. Cnfirm the Cat 5 cable is cnnected t the prper cnnectin n the phne. See illustratin #1 Check internet access Cnfirm the crrect Telewrker IP address is used. See cnfiguratin. Cnfirm Fis is nt being used with the riginal ruter Display shws L2 & Bt dwnlad err. Display shws DHCP: Discvery Optin 128 Missing r Offer X rej Optin 128 missing Display shws a valid IP address and begins t dwnlad but never cmpletes the cnnectin. Display shws enter TW install PW Display Shws enter pin fllwed by superkey Display still Shws enter pin fllwed by superkey after ding this. There is mst likely an issue n the Telewrker server The Telewrker Ip address has mst likely nt been entered r the telephne may have ld settings enabled. Check all settings f the telephne. If they all seem crrect cntact Watsn Cmmunicatins supprt. Review the cnfiguratin guide fr setting up a Telewrker phne. Default the phne and recnfigure. ( see instructins fr defaulting) Call Watsn Cmmunicatins supprt. Prts are blcked n yur lcal ruter. Cnfirm Fis is nt being used with the riginal ruter If nt Fis Ruter, default existing ruter r replace with recmmended mdel. Yur cnfiguratin f the telephne has nt been cmpleted t use with yur Telewrker server. The telephne has nt been registered in the Mitel cntrller. The set may have nt been cnfigured prperly in the Mitel Cntrller r yu may have the wrng extensin number. Refer t yur supprt department fr the Telewrker passwrd. 5 Audi Quality and Reliability. The Telewrker set is cnnected t the main ffice ver the public internet. As lng as yu have a reasnable internet cnnectin vice quality shuld be almst indistinguishable frm yur regular ffice telephne. Because the phne is n the public internet there culd be times when available bandwidth is limited r there is high latency. This can be caused by a number f reasns which are ut f anyne s immediate cntrl. This culd als be caused by smene dwnlading large media files where the Telewrker phne is which culd impact vice quality. This shuld be very uncmmn especially when a cable mdem r Verizn Fis is used. The first example is fr a Mitel 5224 telephne, the secnd example is fr a Mitel 5220 telephne. Defaulting the telephne shuld nly be dne if recmmended by supprt r is suggested in the truble shting guide. In bth examples begin by remving pwer frm the telephne and befre reapplying pwer hld the up arrw key dwn until the first menu chice is presented as shwn in the examples belw. Press Priv t make the number private. Press Save. Adjust Vlume Levels Adjust ringer vlume while the phne is ringing. Adjust handset r speaker vlume while using the handset r speaker.
