2 Student Residences Finding suitable accommodation while studying at Queen Mary is easy. The College s own facilities are both extensive and competitively priced. The College s award-winning 1,176- room Westfield Student Village at Mile End completes the largest self-contained campus within the University of London. All accommodation is provided in selfcatered houses, flats and maisonettes. Queen Mary students also have access to 175 places in the fully catered Intercollegiate Halls in central London, which are owned by the University of London. There is also a range of private housing in the East End area surrounding the campus. If you would prefer to find private accommodation, the College can help by providing you with guidance notes and an online property search. Queen Mary offers accommodation to all new first-year undergraduates who apply by 30 June in the year of entry. However, if you live close enough to the College to commute, you will normally be expected to live at home. This offer does not extend to students who join through the Clearing process or are holding insurance offers. Although every attempt is made to accommodate them, this is strictly subject to availability. Housing provision is also made for first year postgraduate students, although there is no specific deadline for applications. The earlier you apply, the better your chances will be of securing accommodation. Once you have firmly accepted an offer of a place on an academic course, the Admissions Office will send you details of how to apply online. You are therefore advised to complete and return your housing application form as soon as possible. Please refer to our website for a detailed description of each Hall and a comprehensive price list: Self-catering residences Mile End Residences With the completion of the Westfield Student Village, there are two styles of housing available on the Mile End Campus. The Village provides 1,176 single en-suite places for students, staff and academic visitors in seven residential buildings. They are arranged in flats and maisonettes housing between four to eleven students, with each unit sharing kitchen/dining facilities. Rents are between per week for the 10/11 academic session. There are 25 en-suite rooms specifically designed for wheel-chairs users. The other style of on-campus housing provides 700 single non en-suite places in flats or houses, shared by between three and six students. Students share kitchen/ dining facilities, bathrooms and toilets. Most rooms will have wash-hand basins. Rents are between per week for the 10/11 academic session. In both styles of housing, en-suite and non en-suite: all bedrooms are carpeted, equipped with a single bed, wardrobe, bookshelves, desk, chair, desk lamp and storage space. All rooms are centrally heated and have computer data connections (except in 64 rooms in our Student Houses). A personal refrigerator is provided in each en-suite bedroom at Mile End. Kitchens are fully equipped with refrigerators/freezers, cookers, microwave ovens, toasters, washing up facilities, storage cupboards, food preparation surfaces and dining areas. Students are required to provide their own crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. Bed linen and towels are not provided. Launderettes are situated in or close to all self-catering residences. There are no parking facilities available to students living in the Queen Mary Mile End Campus self-catering residences. 2

3 The residential buildings at the Mile End Campus have an on-campus shop, café bar, restaurant, launderettes, central reception and security office (which is manned on a 24-hour a day basis). Mile End Campus fees currently cover a minimum period of 38 weeks and include the Christmas and Easter vacations. Accommodation on other campuses There are a further 205 rooms available at Dawson Hall, situated on the Charterhouse Square Campus, very close to St Bartholomew s teaching hospital, and 145 beds at Floyer House which is situated on the Whitechapel Campus. Both of these residences are reserved for medical and dental students and the majority of the rooms are allocated primarily to final year clinical medical and dental students and first year SMD students. Dawson Hall and Floyer House These are traditional styled halls of residence, providing a strong community feel. Bedrooms are furnished similarly to other self-catering residences on the Mile End Campus and include a personal refrigerator. Laundries, common rooms, multigyms and cycle storage facilities, are provided at both residences. Dawson Hall also offers computing facilities. Both halls have a number of vending machines on site offering a range of snacks and drinks, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fees at both residences currently cover a minimum period of 38 weeks and include the Christmas and Easter vacations. Fees are between per week for the 10/11 academic session. 4 Residential Services Student Residences Fully-catered residences University of London Intercollegiate Halls Queen Mary currently has about 175 places reserved in these Halls. Located in Central London, these Halls offer the opportunity to meet students from other Colleges of the University of London, whilst still being an easy commute to any of Queen Mary s campuses. All Halls offer breakfast and evening meals daily, with lunch at the weekends. Intercollegiate Halls fees currently cover a minimum of 37 weeks, which include the Christmas and Easter vacations. Fees for the 10/11 academic session including meals are from 117 per week for a shared room to 200 per week for a single room. A student already holding a place in, or on a waiting list for, an Intercollegiate Hall will not be considered for a place in Queen Maryowned housing or vice versa. Living in Queen Mary accommodation has many advantages and living in a student community can be an important part of experiencing University life. A dedicated team of residences staff, wardens and stewards are responsible for the general welfare of their residents and ensure that the residences are clean, comfortable and have a sense of community to promote an active academic and social life. Because Queen Mary residences are very popular, there are some restrictions on who is eligible for a place but if you can answer yes to the following three questions you are likely to be offered a place. Question One Will you be a new full-time first year undergraduate or postgraduate student OR an Associate student (either part or full year), SEFP or IFC student registered at Queen Mary, University of London, who has not lived in a Queen Mary residence before, who has applied by the relevant deadline? Question Two Is your home too far from Queen Mary to commute daily? Please note priority is given to those applicants living furthest from Queen Mary. Question Three Are you prepared to sign an agreement for a full academic year in residence, at least for the period mid September to mid June? (This condition does not apply to single semester Associate students). If you can answer yes to questions one and three, but live close enough to Queen Mary to be able to commute, you can still make an application which will be considered for midterm vacancies, should they arise. 4

Recently refurbished, there are pool tables as well as ample seating space.
