Sponsorship Prospectus Better Knowledge for Better Health Un meilleur savoir pour une meilleure santé Québec City, Québec Canada 20-23 September 2013
Dear prospective sponsor, Cochrane Canada is delighted to be hosting the 21 st annual Cochrane Colloquium, with Université Laval, in Québec City in September 2013. This will be a very special Colloquium, when we will be celebrating, face-toface, 20 years of The Cochrane Collaboration. We value our collaboration with partners and supporters across Canada and around the globe and want to offer the opportunity to you to visibly demonstrate your support of Cochrane and evidence-based decision-making through sponsorship of this important event. About The Cochrane Collaboration Our vision is that health care decision-making throughout the world will be informed by high quality, timely research evidence". The Cochrane Collaboration, established in 1993, is an international network of more than 29,000 people helping healthcare providers, policy makers, patients, their advocates and carers make well-informed decisions about human health care by preparing, updating and promoting the accessibility of Cochrane Systematic Reviews over 5,000 so far, published online in The Cochrane Library. Cochrane Reviews are unique because they are both produced by, and are relevant to, everyone interested in the effects of health care. Based on the best available evidence, healthcare providers can decide if they should fund production of a particular drug. Practitioners can find out if an intervention is effective in a specific clinical context. Patients and other health care consumers can assess the potential risks and benefits of their treatment. The Cochrane Collaboration s contributors are a mix of mostly volunteers and a few paid staff and many are world leaders in their field of medicine, health policy, research methodology or consumer advocacy. Cochrane groups are situated in some of the world s best academic and medical institutions. In addition to our core mission of producing Cochrane Reviews, our contributors are involved in a number of related activities, including: advocacy for evidence-based decision-making; providing training in Cochrane Review preparation; developing the methodology for preparing reviews; and translating them from English into a range of different languages. We are an independent, not-for-profit organization, funded by a variety of sources including governments, universities, hospital trusts, charities and personal donations. In January 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) awarded the Collaboration a seat on the World Health Assembly, allowing us to provide input on WHO health resolutions. We were accepted as a Non-Governmental Organization in Official Relations with the WHO, establishing a partnership with formalized communication between our two organizations. 1 Cochrane Collaboration Colloquium 2013 Sponsorship Prospectus
