General Race Information The mantra of the Krispy Kreme Challenge epitomizes the test of physical fitness and gastrointestinal fortitude. What started as a challenge among ten friends has transformed into this nationally publicized charity race, the largest road race in North Carolina! The Challenge begins at the Memorial Belltower on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. Participants run 2.5 miles through historic downtown to the Krispy Kreme Challenge located at the intersection of Peace and Person Streets, where they attempt to consume one dozen original glazed doughnuts, and then run 2.5 miles back to the Memorial Belltower. Participants and sponsors can feel confident when they support the Krispy Kreme Challenge that their efforts are for a great cause. All proceeds from the Krispy Kreme Challenge are donated to the North Carolina Children s Hospital enabling the staff to continue to provide the best care and facilities for patients. On February 14, 2015, we will welcome over 8,000 people to take the Challenge! Largest road race in North Carolina. Largest third party donor to the North Carolina s Children s Hospital, donating $750,000 to date. Participants come from 41 states and the District of Columbia and represent 78 of the 100 counties in North Carolina. Ranked number 1 in the 54 Things to do at NC State. Racer Demographics and Economic Impact The race offers access to a young, active demographic with some level of disposable income for luxuries and entertainment. Around 10,000 participants and spectators are present on race day with over 3,000 from outside of Wake County. Approximately 1,800 racers stayed at least one night in Raleigh hotels as a result of the race and an additional 1,700 would consider staying in a hotel if a special Krispy Kreme Challenge Offer was available. Race participants and spectators alone consumed over 8,000 meals in Triangle area restaurants. Over 2,000 participants and spectators shopped in Raleigh establishments during their race visit. Inaugural Race Expo The 2015 Krispy Kreme Challenge will feature the inaugural Krispy Kreme Challenge Expo.
