Following the very successful meetings in Lausanne, Krakow, Istanbul, Helsinki, Glasgow and the Hague, the capital of the Czech Republic and the Institute of Criminalistics Prague have the opportunity to host a very important meeting of delegates coming from forensic science laboratories, academia, industry and trade and service companies from all over the world. ABOUT THE CONFERENCE Dates: 6 11 September 2015 Venue: Prague Congress Centre, Prague, Czech Republic Estimated number of participants: 800 delegates Web site: http://eafs2015.eu ABOUT THE HOST The Institute of Criminalistics Prague (ICP) as a central forensic institution is a part of police force (Police of the Czech Republic) and is included in the list of expert institutes at the Ministry of Justice and acts as independent legal expert body in evidence examination. Since 1977 the forensic science service in the Police of the Czech Republic has been organised in three levels: Institute of Criminalistics Prague 8 regional forensic laboratories Groups of crime scene officers - district level of the police (90 groups) The main activities of ICP are forensic casework, research and technical development of means used in forensic examination and crime scene work, methodical control of regional forensic laboratories and crime scene officers. ICP is able to provide forensic expertise in the following areas: chemical examination and physics, fire cause investigation, defectoscopy, metallography, electrotechnical examination, ballistics, (firearms examination), mechanical engineering, biological analysis, DNA, anthropology, questioned documents examination, handwriting analysis, authenticity verification of means of payment, voice analysis, forensic photography, videorecordings examination, fingerprint examination, and computer forensics. ICP takes part in a number of investigations at crime scenes, particularly serious crimes or complicated cases. Annual case load is about 16,000 expert opinions. 2

VENUE: PRAGUE CONGRESS CENTRE The Prague Congress Centre is well equipped venue and is located in a unique position on top of one of the Prague hills, offering a beautiful view of the famous skyline of Prague, with the silhouette of the Prague Castle. The Centre has 20 halls and 50 meeting rooms with capacity ranging from 12 to 2764 persons. When reconstruction was completed in 2000, it became one of the largest and best equipped European centres, a fact confirmed by the problem-free running of the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in September of that year, and by the NATO Summit in November, 2002. MAIN THEMES AND TOPICS OF THE CONFERENCE Conference title Pushing Boundaries, working beyond borders Theme 1: Management of Forensic Science Laboratories This theme is intended to cover the business of forensic science laboratories including best practice in forensic science and management, education and training of forensic scientists, the laboratory staff and also of stakeholders the police officers, prosecutors and judges, quality control and assurance, the economics of forensic science practice, effectiveness and efficiency, and last but not least ethical issues of forensic process. Theme 2: Future Development in Crime Scene Investigation Current crime scene investigation uses traditional tools as well as latest technologies. While forensic science laboratory methods have proven to be considerably harmonized, more standardisation is needed at crime scenes. Contributions are invited on topics: harmonisation of crime scene investigation, international cross-border investigations, crime scenedocumentation, innovative technology for crime scene investigation, quality management of crime scene investigation, disaster victim identification and others. Theme 3: Trends in Traditional and Novel Forensic Casework Approaches What is the role of traditional forensic disciplines and novel trends in forensic casework? Do they compete? What is the expectation of stakeholders? Main topics of this theme are new approaches in routine forensic science casework, new categories of examination, progressive techniques providing quick and reliable information for investigation, cuttingedge technology for forensic science, etc. Theme 4: Electronic Data Evidence Digital technology surrounds us at every step, and each of its elements may carry important information. Main motive of this theme will be data mining, analysis of information found in digital devices, cybercrime security, forensic information technology, network forensics, examination of digital still and video images and sounds, etc. 5
Theme 5: Interpretation of Forensic Evidence There is still much difference in evidence interpretation among forensic institutes and also individual fields of forensic examination.
