Access Services Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation Access Services is a Vancouver Park Board department working towards making leisure and recreational pursuits accessible to all. We partner with various organizations to provide adapted/modified programs for people with disabilities. participate to the best of their ability. Camp staff and volunteers model acceptance, patience and understanding. Campers are supported one-to-one (if necessary) by volunteers. These camps run with a philosophy of full inclusion, with the priority being to find ways to help children have fun with their peers, and to participate to their very best ability in camp activities.* *The level of support we are able to provide is limited due to the reliance on volunteers and the environment of day camp. Some campers may be asked to bring a professional support worker to camp to assist them. Adapted Aquatics This modified Red Cross Program is designed to support individuals who have a physical or intellectual challenge and have had limited success in traditional swim programs. The primary goal of this program is to work with the swimmers abilities while providing individualized instruction. These classes can be carried out in small groups or with one to one support. This program allows the participant to play, exercise and swim in a controlled environment. Please note this program runs in the winter, spring and fall at both Hillcrest Aquatic Centre and Stan Stronge Pool. Classes are also offered at Templeton Pool. Inclusive Summer Day Camps The Goal: To provide children with challenges the chance to take part in the day camp experience with kids their own age. To achieve this goal our inclusive day camps are supported by an Inclusion Facilitator who, together with youth volunteers, offer additional support to children with challenges.
