1 The YMCA Introduces Two New Directors! It has been a busy summer for the Owensboro Family YMCA! With surpassing 560 children registered in our Summer Day Camp program, the behind the scenes work to turn the Athenian into a 24-hour access facility and the continual building improvements we have had a lot on our plate! But, we have also added two new Directors to our staff as well. The Fitness Department and Youth Programming Department are now under the leadership of Isaac Coffey and Megan Brannon. Both bring new enthusiasm and fresh ideas that will continue to add value to your YMCA experience. Isaac is originally from Virginia, he and his family moved to Owensboro in December of Isaac is a 2000 graduate of Radford University where he studied Physical Education and Commercial Fitness. Upon graduation, Isaac took a job at the Staunton-Augusta YMCA in Virginia where he was the Fitness and Membership Director. Isaac is very enthusiastic about being back at the YMCA and happy to be part of the Owensboro Community. He is very much looking forward to working with the YMCA Staff and building new relationships in the community through collaborations and programs. Joining fee is a one-time, non-refundable fee upon initiation of a new (or lapsed) membership. Payment Plan: 1. Monthly draft from checking /savings /credit card account 2. Semi-annual or annual payment Annual and semi-annual memberships will have any unused portions refunded if terminated before end date (excluding the joining fee). All requests for cancellations must be made to the Registration Office in writing three business days before draft date. Financial assistance applications are available in the Registration Office. Financial assistance is made possible through the United Way and the YMCA s annual Investment in Mission* fundraising campaign.
2 Youth Programs Afterschool Ages: 5-12 In need of childcare when school lets out? The YMCA offers a program to fix those needs. We provide transportation to the YMCA from all schools except Whitesville and West Louisville. Your child will be involved in physical activities, outdoor games, arts and crafts, homework time and much more. Children enjoy a healthy snack during our devotional lesson, while supervised and cared for by our certified staff. Registration now open 2:00-6:00 pm (M, T, W, Th, F) Registration: $25 and immunization records Members $30 a week. Non-Members $42 a week. Holiday Camp Ages: 5-12 When school is out the YMCA is in! During Holidays or bad weather the YMCA offers an all day childcare program. Drop your child off at the YMCA for a fun filled day of games, swimming, field trips, devotions, and character development. Your children will be supervised and cared for by our certified staff. *Lunch and snack are not provided* Drop off at 6:30 AM and pick up by 6:00 PM. Registration: $25 and immunization records. Members $15 Non-Members $19 per day Preschool Ages: 3-5 Our daily schedule includes time for learning centers, small group skills, story time, creative drama, exercise, outdoor play, snack time, and group activities. Our program is developed around themes that are developmentally appropriate for your child in preparation for kindergarten. Math: shapes, numbers, patterns, the 7 days of the week. Music: enjoy music through songs, dramatization, and rhythmic activities. Physical Education: develop both growth and fine motor skills. Outdoor and indoor games. Art: daily arts and crafts, drawing, tracing, painting, and gluing. Language Arts: learning to write names, recognizing upper and lower case letters, rhyming words. Science: study in weather, animals, magnets, insect classification, and categorizing. 8:30-11:30 am (M, W, F) Registration: $25, immunization records, and potty trained Members $80 Non-Members $90 a month *$50 supply fee during 1st and 2nd semester Birthday Party Looking for a place to have a party? 12:00-2:00 pm and 3:00-5:00 pm (S) 2:00-4:00 pm (Sun) Members $75 Non-Members $95 up to 16 kids Lock-ins, Room Rentals, or Bus Rentals people and overnight hours available. The dance routines are similar to the ones used during the halftime shows of local high school sporting events. The class is instructed by local high school dance coaches. Both boys and girls are welcome. September 10 October 17 November 5 December 17 5:00-5:50 PM (T, Th) Member $35 Non-Members $65 Youth Soccer Ages 3-6 This program is great for first time players and beginners. During the program your child will learn the rules of soccer, how to pass, dribble, shoot, and play as a team. Your child will go through offensive & defensive drills. 3 Fitness Programs Wellness Consultation Interview with fitness staff to discuss program goals and objectives, schedules, YMCA programs, guidelines and review past health and exercise history. Information is used to develop a specific plan for individuals (ages 11 to 14 need a Physician Referral). Schedule appointments in the Registration Office. This is a free service for our members. Equipment Orientations One of our fitness staff/personal trainers will develop and guide you through a general fitness routine on cardio and weight equipment. A follow up orientation may be scheduled after your first appointment to review progress and to make adjustments to exercise routine as needed. We recommend two appointments for beginners (ages 15 and up). This is a free service for our members by appointment. Fitness Assessments A comprehensive measurement of your current over-all fitness level. The results will be analyzed and our staff will review the results with you. We will also help you develop a plan to improve or maintain your current condition (children ages need a Physician Referral for exercise). We recommend completing the consultation first to review past health and exercise history. Members $50 Non-Members $75. Includes two 50 minute appointments. Join our Saturday morning Boot Camp! This Boot Camp is for all fitness levels, meaning it s FOR YOU! September 14 October 19 November 2 December 7 Members $25 Non-Members $35 Personal Training One-on-one fitness training with certified professionals. The YMCA s personal training program begins with an extensive consultation and health screening to identify any risks and help set appropriate goals. Once your fitness level is determined, your trainer will develop a fitness plan customized to your particular abilities, goals, and health status. For more information contact Isaac Coffey, Fitness Director at Youth Health & Fitness Ages 11-17, INSPIRE. EDUCATE. MOTIVATE. Youth will be provided training on proper body mechanics, primarily free weights and body resistance exercises. By appointment only, see Registration Office for available times. Participants may sign-up for multiple sessions. A Physicians referral is required for youth under the age of 15. Program follows American College of Sports Medicine guidelines for Physical Activity and resistance training. Members $20 Non-Members $40 Price includes 4 appointments, 50 minutes each
4 Aquatics Group Swimming Lessons Want your children to learn from knowledgeable and caring instructors? Then sign them up for the Owensboro YMCA s Group Swimming Lessons. Classes are available to children ages 3 to18 who want to learn swimming basics or improve their strokes and skills at any ability level. The instructor to swimmer ratio will be approx. 1:5. Fall Session I: September 3 26 Registration closes August 30. Fall Session II: October 1 31 (No classes during fall break) Registration closes September 27. Fall Session III: November 5 December 3 Registration closes October 28. 4:30-5:15 PM or 5:30-6:15 PM (T, TH) Members $30 Non-Members $60 *Signing up after the registration date will result in a $10 late fee. Space is limited due to pool space. Parent-Tot Swimming: Ages 6-36 months. This three lesson course has parents in the water participating with their children. Parents are shown the fundamentals of how to teach their children to feel safe and secure in the water. Tots will begin to learn basic water skills such as kicking, reaching, pulling, floating, and bobbing. Fall Session I: September 7 21 Fall Session II: October 5 19 Fall Session III: November :30-9:15 AM (S) Members $20 Non-Members $25 Exceptional Swimmers: 1-on-1 private swimming lessons for children with special needs. This 1-on-1 approach is important for strengthening the child s aquatics skills in a safe environment. This will help put parents at ease when their children are around water. These lessons offer flexibility, and a caring and personal touch. This program will meet each child where they are and cater to their specific needs. Members $9 Non-Members $10 Aqua Boot Camp: An endurance and strength training class utilizing lap swimming and plyometric training while using the water as resistance. It s a high-intensity; low-impact aerobics class that s great for burning calories without adding strain on joints and muscles. Takes place in both shallow and deep water. Flotation devices will be provided upon request. This class is a 4week/8session course. Swim caps & goggles are recommended! 5:30-6:30 PM (M, W) Fall Session I: September 9 October 2 Fall Session II: October 14 November 6 Members $35 Non-Members $45 Homeschool Gym and Swim: This is an excellent opportunity for students who are homeschooled to get out of the house and into some fitness. The class will consist of 1 hour of gym time and 1 hour of pool time. 1-3 PM (T). Fall Session I: September 3 October 22 (Extra day to be set at a later date) Fall Session II: October 29 December 17 Members $30 for first child, $15 each additional child Non-Members $40 for first child, $20 each additional child Private Swim Lessons for Children and Adults: Private Swim Lessons are a great way to get one-on-one attention. This is the fastest way to learn anything swimming related from the basics, to fine tuning stroke technique. These lessons are offered to all ages. We pride ourselves with the most knowledgeable instructors and stroke technicians in the tri-state area to cater to your individual needs. Individual Lessons: Members $15/per lesson Non-Members $20/per lesson Private Swim Lesson Package: Consists of 6 lessons at a discounted price. (Buy 5 get 1 FREE) Members $75 Non-Members $100 Adaptive Swimming & Fitness: This program includes teaching methods that are adapted to meet the needs of individuals who, because of their impairments, cannot readily achieve success in regular swim lessons. Lessons will be tailored to help boost their water confidence, interpersonal skills, and fitness levels. Come join us for a fun time in the pool. Flotation devices are available for anyone who needs one. This is an 8 week course. Fall Session: September 14 November 2 9:30-10:30 AM (S) Members $40 Non-Members $45 Intermediate Water Aerobics: For those of you who are more advanced than the Aquacise class, but not quite sure if you are ready for Aqua Boot Camp, we are happy to offer an Intermediate Water Aerobics class. The class will include medium to hard endurance and strength training. Great for all levels of fitness! Class is continual. Limit 12 people. 5:30-6:30 PM (T, TH) Members $12/month (unlimited class visits) Non-Members $20/month (unlimited class visits) Swim For Fitness: Swim for Fitness is an excellent class for those who want to gain endurance, improve stroke technique, and build strength in their swimming workouts. Taught by Kelly Duncan (1980 Olympic Trials Participant), you will be learning from the best and have fun doing it! Participants MUST be able to swim 1 length (freestyle). Goggles and swim cap recommended. Fall Session I: October 15 December 3 6:30 7:30 (T) Members $25 Non-Members $45 Porpoise Club A six week course for kids 11 & over to provide them with an hour swim practice encompassing all four competitive strokes. Swimmers will be able to enhance their swimming strokes, ability, & knowledge without the full commitments of a swim team. Must have successfully passed the Fish level of Group Swim Lessons. 5 Senior Programs Senior Fitness This 45 minute long class is for Men and Women of all fitness levels. This high energy class utilizes elastic tubing, hand weights and stability balls to increase strength and balance. 8:30 AM (M, W) at the Athenian Branch Chair Yoga This hour long class offers a variety of safe and effective options to increase flexibility and balance. Chair Yoga is taught from a seated and/or standing position to enhance flow and energy along with restorative breathing exercises. 10:15 AM (T, TH) at the Family Branch SilverSneakers Classic Muscular Strength and Range of Motion offers seated and standing strength, endurance and stretching exercises. Enjoy the music from the 40 s, 50 s and 60 s as you exercise in or around a chair. 10:15-11:00 AM (M, W, F) at the Family Branch Aquacise A slow to medium paced water aerobics class designed to enhance mobility and flexibility. Registration is offered year round. 10:30 AM (M, T, W, TH) 1:00 PM & 7:30 PM (M, W) Members $5 a month/unlimited visits Non-Members $45 a month/unlimited visits Zumba Gold Zumba Gold takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. Megan is a 2003 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College. While in school, she majored in Sports and Fitness Management and played Softball for the Panthers. Since graduation in 2003, she has spent time working for Girls Inc. and also as a stay at home mom. Megan is married with two children. Megan is very excited to be part of the YMCA team. Megan has a background in Dance and Gymnastics and hopes to be able to start new programming for our youth in those areas. Already diving head first into the YMCA s Summer Day Camp and Afterschool Programs, Megan has high hopes to also continue to build on the other programs we already have established such as Kinder Kickers and Kinder Basketball. The Owensboro Family YMCA is thrilled to have Isaac and Megan as part of our staff. We hope all our members will stop by and introduce themselves to these new Directors. Make sure to keep an eye out in the coming months for new programs and activities that may be taking place at the Owensboro Family YMCA. We are still working on final arrangements and completing work that will need to be done to make this happen. We are very excited to be able to offer this optional service to our YMCA Members. The target date to start is October 1, You will be required to sign up for this service, pay $10 key fob deposit (per fob) and a $25 annual fee (up to two members on membership, $10 for each addition member on membership if more than two) to gain access.
