Colorado Dragon Boat Festival Fact Sheet Festival Dates Sloan s Lake Park - Denver, CO Saturday, July 18, 2015: 10am - 7pm Sunday, July 19, 2015: 10am - 5pm Mission Statement The mission of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is to build bridges of awareness, knowledge and understanding between the diverse Asian Pacific American (APA) communities and the general public through cultural education, leadership development and athletic competition. Colorado Dragon Boat Festival Story With its origins in China, the 2,000 year old sport of dragon boat racing has crossed the seas and found a home in Colorado. Founded in 2001, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is the largest pan-asian event in the Rocky Mountain region. In just 14 years, CDBF has grown from 15,000 to 125,000 attendees. In addition to the exciting boat races, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival sets itself apart by putting an emphasis on cultural education. In 2014, the CDBF featured over 100 performances and demonstrations representing over 20 different Asian Pacific Islander ethnic groups. Festival attendees can also enjoy a wide variety of Asian cuisines at two Taste of Asia food courts and shop at the festival s very own Marketplace. Highlights from 2014 included a new Culinary Dojo cooking demo stage and a Lion Dance Extravaganza! Colorado Dragon Boat Festival Publicity The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival garners ample media coverage prior, during and after the event. The festival s colorful cultural focus and dynamic action-oriented races and performances are perfect for all media reports. Each year, the Operations Committee creates new programming to keep the festival fresh for frequent festival guests and continue to pique media interest. The public relations campaign for 2014 was very successful and generated a total ad equivalency value of over $250,000. Television & Radio Each year, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival partners with local television and cable providers to run an on-air campaign totaling over $80,000. Through CDBF s partnership with KDVR and KWGN, a two different commercial spots were filmed promoting the festival, using both Fox31 and CW2 anchors. The 2014 campaign began on June 27th and ran through July 20th (the final day of the festival). Between the 450 30-second TV spots run on KDVR, KWGN and Comcast s various cross-channel cable promotions, the CDBF spot garnered approximately 12 million impressions. The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival was also happy to continue its strong partnership with Lincoln Financial Media. Radio stations included in the partnership are KS 107.5, Comedy 103.1, Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan, 1600 The Zone, and Cruisin 950am. In 2013, KS1075 brought their station van to the festival for live broadcasts and all stations aired a combined total of 404 pre-recorded promos as well as many live promos. The 2014 campaign ran July 1st through 20th. Print Advertisement The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival partners with the Denver Post by placing ads in strategic weekend editions of the newspaper leading up to the festival. The print ads reflect the winning promotional poster design of the year and are a colorful, eye-catching reminder of upcoming festival dates and details. Associate Sponsor logos are included in the print ads. Total impressions garnered from Denver Post print and online ads equal approximately 8 million. Website The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival website (www.cdbf.org) generated over 87,000 page views in July 2014 alone, from 23,000 unique users. The CDBF website features high visibility for sponsor promotion, photos to illustrate the colorful and dynamic aspects of the festival, videos, a Facebook link and Twitter widget showing a running display of tweets from CDBF, fans and sponsors, a commenting platform with quick responses from CDBF, and high SEO with two-thirds of traffic to the website through search engine referrals. Social Media The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival relies heavily on promotion via social media sites with the primary platforms being Facebook and Twitter. CDBF s Facebook account has over 4,100 fans with over 3,400 active users during the festival month of July 2014. The CDBF Twitter page has over 800 followers. Through re-tweeting of messages, CDBF was able to reach over 3,000 users during the 2013 festival season. New in 2014 was a selfie contest! Festival attendees were encouraged to take a selfie showcasing their favorite part of the festival and upload it with the hashtag #CDBFSelfie. Top images were voted on by the public to determine the winner. Collateral Materials CDBF organizers distribute 1,500 double-sided color posters, 8,000 double-sided color rack cards, and 8,000 program books. All collateral pieces have sponsor logos printed.
