2 Pleural Mesothelioma 2013: Multidisciplinary Diagnosis, Treatment and Investigation Program Overview & Target Audience This course is a state-of-the-art review of the etiology, diagnosis, treatment and investigation of malignant pleural mesothelioma. The faculty of national and international experts have been selected to provide the full spectrum of perspectives on the many challenging and controversial topics surrounding this cancer. The review covers the gamut from the pearls and pitfalls associated with diagnosing mesothelioma and palliating recurrent effusions to the current state of, and indications for, standard and investigational treatments to the criteria for initiating palliative care. Presented for clinicians, there will be a select review of the most cutting edge genetic, translational and clinical research. Each topic section will conclude with an audience interactive panel discussion and the course will conclude with an audience interactive mock multidisciplinary tumor board addressing commonly encountered, yet challenging, clinical scenarios. This course will be of interest and use to anyone who interfaces with malignant pleural mesothelioma: internists, pulmonologists, gerontologists, oncologists, radiation oncologists, thoracic/general/oncologic surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, researchers, research nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and any trainees.
