4 4 Frequently Asked Questins (FAQ) Test f Essential Academic Skills (TEAS ) The Nursing Department requires applicants t the RN and Advanced Placement RN Prgrams t submit results frm the Test f Essential Academic Skills (TEAS ) as part f the applicatin prcess. We have cmpiled a list f questins and answers regarding the exam and ur plicies regarding taking this exam. If yu have further questins regarding the exam itself, please g t If yu have questins regarding the admissins criteria as it relates t the exam, please cntact the Admissins ffice at What is the TEAS assessment? The Test f Essential Academic Skills (TEAS ) administered by Assessment Technlgies Institute, LLC (ATI) is a standardized, timed, cmputer-based exam designed t assess the general academic preparedness f students interested in applying t the Assciate Degree Nursing Prgram. It measures knwledge in basic, essential skills in the academic cntent areas f Reading, Mathematics, Science and English. Wh needs t take the TEAS? All applicants t the RN prgram and Advanced Placement RN Prgram seeking admissin fr spring 2017 and beynd must take the exam. Students that applied fr fall 2016 admissin are nt required t take the exam as part f the applicatin prcess. Students that applied and were accepted int the prgram fr fall 2016 will take the exam after prgram rientatin. Students that applied but were nt accepted int the prgram fr fall 2016 and apply fr admissin in spring 2017 r after are required t take TEAS. Where d I take TEAS at NCC? TEAS will be administered in the Library Testing Center n the Bethlehem and Mnre Campus. The NCC Mack Library testing center is lcated n the 4th flr f the Cllege Center building, 3835 Green Pnd Rad, Bethlehem PA The phne number is The Mnre Campus ESSA Library testing center is lcated in the Keystne building at 2411 Rute 715, Tannersville, PA The phne number is Testing Center Rules and General Infrmatin: Reprt t the Circulatin Desk f the library 15 minutes prir t the time yu are scheduled t test. Yu must present a valid pht ID. Persnal items including cell phnes and ther electrnic devices, watches and wallets must be secured befre entering the testing rm. Individual lckers will be prvided fr yur belngings. Clthing r ther items being brught int the test bth may be subject t inspectin. The testing rm is under audi and visual surveillance. Fd and beverages are prhibited inside the testing area. Children are nt allwed in the testing rm. NCC plicy states that children under the age f 16 may nt be left unattended n campus.

5 5 When is the test ffered at NCC? The exam will be ffered between February 22 and August 31, 2016 fr applicants seeking admissin in spring 2017 and thereafter fr the six mnth perid befre each applicatin deadline. Yu can view the extensive schedule f testing dates n bth campuses when yu register n-line. Detailed instructins fr TEAS registratin are included n page 12 f this packet. When shuld I take the TEAS? Yu shuld nt take the exam until the minimum admissin requirements t the prgram are met. The minimum prgram admissin requirements include: High schl chemistry and bilgy with labs and grades f B r better. (An acceptable substitute fr high schl chemistry is NCC CHEM 135 with a grade f B r better; fr high schl bilgy it is NCC BIOS 115 with a B r better.) Tw years f high schl algebra with a C r better. (An acceptable substitute fr high schl algebra I and II is MATH 022 and 026 r MATH 028 with grades f C r better.) GPA f 3.00 r higher. The results f the exam are nly valid fr tw years. Yu shuld seek the guidance f an Admissin Cunselr r yur academic advisr befre scheduling yur TEAS exam t avid unnecessary early testing and cst. Hw many sub-sectins f the exam am I required t take? Yu are required t take all fur sub-sectins f the exam (Math, English, Reading, and Science). Is there a deadline fr testing? The last day f testing fr spring 2017 admissin is August 31, The last day f testing fr fall 2017 admissin is January 15, What scre d I need t be cnsidered fr admissin int the prgram? Primary cnsideratin fr admissin will be given t students with a grade f B r better in the prgram sciences (Anatmy and Physilgy I & II; Micrbilgy) n the first attempt and an verall academic preparedness rating n TEAS f Prficient with sub-sectin scres at r abve the natinal mean. The natinal mean fr each sub-sectin scre is as fllws: Reading (69%) Math (63.3%) Science (45.8%) English and Language Usage (60%)

6 6 Hw ften can I take the exam? Yu are allwed t take the TEAS tw times in an applicatin perid. There are tw applicatin perids per year. If the test is taken mre than twice in an applicatin perid, nly the first tw test results will be cnsidered. The minimum time between a first attempt and a repeat attempt is 30 days. Results will nt be cnsidered fr testing dne less than 30 days frm a previus attempt. Why is the TEAS used? The TEAS assessment evaluates the academic readiness f applicants t the RN prgram. The results may als be referenced during the advising prcess. Hw d I register t take the TEAS? Only students wh meet the minimum admissin requirements t the prgram and are applying fr admissin t the RN nursing prgram r Advanced Placement RN prgram in spring 2017 r later shuld register t take TEAS. Yu can register fr the TEAS nline by visiting Detailed directins fr registratin are included in this packet beginning n page 12. Yu must register at least 14 days prir t the testing date. Debit r credit card payment is accepted. An ATI accunt is required t in rder t register fr the test. The directins fr creating a new accunt are included in this packet beginning n page 8. What is the cst f the TEAS test? The cst t register fr TEAS at NCC is $69.97 including tax. Hw d I prepare fr the TEAS? Since TEAS scres are part f yur applicatin t a highly cmpetitive prgram, yu shuld prepare thrughly fr the exam. Study manuals are available fr purchase at bkstres including the NCC bk stres n the Bethlehem and Mnre campus. Review manuals and practice tests are als available fr purchase frm the ATI testing site Click n ATI Prduct Slutins, under Pre-Nursing Schl select Test f Essential Academic Skills. At the bttm f the page, yu can chse frm the prducts ffered fr TEAS V. A limited number f TEAS Study Manuals are available fr shrt term use in the library at the Bethlehem and Mnre Campus. What TEAS scre will be used in determining my acceptance? Prficiency level, highest Individual Adjusted Scre and each sub-sectin scre will be included in the applicatin review prcess. What shuld I bring t the test? Yu must bring the fllwing items n the day f yur test: 1. A valid pht ID t gain admissin t the testing area 2. Yur ATI user name and passwrd t access the test n-line 3. Tw r mre sharpened # 2 pencils

7 7 Hw d I get my results? ATI will send yur TEAS scres t NCC electrnically s they can be included in yur applicatin. After yu leave the testing area yu can view yur results by lgging n t the ATI website with yur user name and passwrd and selecting results. Can I take TEAS at a lcatin ther than NCC? Yes, applicants may chse t take TEAS at anther lcatin. The name f the exam must be TEAS (Test f Essential Academic Skills) and the exam must be published by ATI (Assessment Technlgies Institute, LLC.). NCC will nly accept results frm TEAS -versin 5.0. Yu can request t send an fficial TEAS transcript t NCC thrugh the ATI n-line stre fr a fee f $27. Can I use results f TEAS taken previusly? Yes, TEAS scres are valid fr 2 years frm the test date. What subject areas are included in TEAS? The test cnsists f 170 multiple-chice questins (150 are scred). There are fur sectins: Reading, English, Math and Science. Basic understanding f these subjects is imprtant fr success in a nursing prgram. The Math subtest measures knwledge f whle numbers, metric cnversins, fractins and decimals, algebraic equatins, percentages and rati/prprtin. The Science subtest cvers science reasning, science knwledge, bilgy, chemistry, anatmy, and physilgy, basic physical principals and general science. The English subtest measures knwledge f punctuatin, grammar, and sentences structure, cntextual wrds, and spelling. The Reading subtest cvers paragraph cmprehensin, passage cmprehensin, and inferences/cnclusins. Hw many questins are in each sub-sectin? The number f test items in each sectin is as fllws: Reading (40) Math (45) Science (30) English and Language Usage (55) Hw much time will I have t cmplete each sectin? A ttal f 209 minutes is allwed t cmplete the test. The time allwed t cmplete each sectin f the test is as fllws: Reading (50 minutes) Math (56 minutes) Science (38 minutes) English and Language Usage (65 minutes)

8 8 Hw t Create an ATI Accunt If yu are nt a current user n yu must create a new accunt t access the student prtal r t make a purchase frm ATI's nline stre. Fllw the steps belw t create a new accunt. Frm the atitesting.cm hme page, click Create Accunt. The Sign-in Inf page will display. Enter the accunt infrmatin that yu will use t sign in t yur accunt r t recver yur accunt. Yu must enter valid infrmatin int all the fields n this screen befre yu can prceed. If yur entry is nt accepted, an errr message similar t the ne pictured belw will display. After yu have entered all yur accunt infrmatin, click Cntinue t g t the Security Questins page.

9 9 On the Security Questins page, select three different security questins, ne frm each list and enter yur answer fr each. Be sure t recrd yur questins and answers fr yur future reference, in case yu need t recver yur accunt r yu cannt remember yur passwrd. Click Cntinue t enter yur persnal infrmatin. On the Persnal Inf page, enter yur cntact infrmatin. The fllwing fields are required: First Name Last Name Address City ZIP/Pstal Cde Cuntry State/Prvince Click Cntinue t enter yur Institutin infrmatin.

10 10 On the Institutin Inf page, select an Institutin frm the list and if yu are seeking a degree, enter a date in Expected Graduatin Date. Yur NCC STUDENT ID IS REQUIRED. Yur scres will be mapped t yur applicatin using this number Click Cntinue t enter yur Demgraphic Inf. On the Demgraphic Inf page, enter yur Gender, Birth Date, Race, and Primary Language infrmatin. Birth Date is required. Click Cntinue t g t Subscriptin, Updates & Ntes. On the Subscriptin, Updates & Ntes page, read the Subscriptin, Updates & Ntes infrmatin. If yu agree t allw ATI t share yur infrmatin under the terms presented n this screen, select the Yes, I cnsent check bx. Click Cntinue t g t User Terms and Cnditins.

11 11 On the User Terms and Cnditins page, read the infrmatin under User Terms and Cnditins. Then select the Yes, I Agree check bx t acknwledge that yu have read the ATI User Terms and Cnditins and agree t be bund by them. Click Previus if yu want t change any f the infrmatin yu have entered fr yur new accunt. Click Register when yu are finished creating yur accunt. The Sign On windw displays and yur new Username is filled in fr yu. Enter yur Passwrd and click GO t launch the Student Hme page.

12 12 Hw t Register t Take TEAS at NCC Yu can register fr the TEAS Assessment thrugh the ATI Online Stre in 3 easy steps. STEP 1: Sign n t yur Accunt STEP 2: Register fr a TEAS Sessin STEP 3: Checkut and Pay STEP 1: Sign n t yur Accunt If yu d nt have an ATI Student accunt, fllw the steps in Hw t Create an Accunt. Frm the atitesting.cm hme page enter yur Username and Passwrd and click GO t launch the Student Hme page. Then, frm the Student Hme page, click Online Stre in the upper right crner. The ATI Stre page displays. In the Register fr clumn, click TEAS. The Registratin page displays. G t STEP 2: Register fr a TEAS Sessin t cntinue.

13 13 STEP 2: Register fr a TEAS Sessin Select Prgram Type: TEAS fr Nursing Students Cuntry: USA State: Pennsylvania City: Bethlehem r Tannersville Click Next. The Brwse Sessins page will display. D ne f the fllwing t register fr a sessin: Click the Register buttn assciated with the sessin fr which yu are registering. Click the Learn Mre buttn t pen the Prduct Details windw t view details abut the sessin. If yu clicked Register, skip t the next windw. If yu clicked Learn Mre, yu pened this Prduct Details windw. Review the infrmatin and then click Register t add this sessin t yur nline shpping cart r click the back buttn t g back t yur Brwse Sessins list. After yu click Register, this windw displays: Click Yes t cntinue. Yur Shpping Cart displays.

14 14 Review the infrmatin n the screen. At this pint, yu have the fllwing ptins: If all the infrmatin is crrect and yu d nt want t purchase additinal items, click Check Out. If yu want t make additinal purchases, click Cntinue Shpping t return t the Online Stre. Nte: Supprting TEAS items, such as study aids and extra transcripts, are available frm the ATI Online Stre. At the Online Stre hme page, enter TEAS in the Search field and then click G t display all TEAS-related items. If yu d nt want t purchase the designated assessment, click Remve this Item. The sessin is remved frm yur Shpping Cart. Click Cntinue Shpping t return t the Online Stre. G back t chse a different TEAS Assessment sessin. STEP 3: Check Out and Pay Enter/cnfirm yur mailing address and prvide any additinal infrmatin and then click Prceed t Payment Details. The Secure Checkut: Payment Details screen displays. Nte: If any required infrmatin has nt been filled in, yu will be prmpted t prvide the infrmatin befre yu are allwed t cntinue

15 15 If yu have a Prmtin Cde, enter it int the Prmtin Cde field and then click Apply Cde. In the Payment Infrmatin sectin, enter yur credit card infrmatin. Check yur address infrmatin and click Edit Address t change the billing infrmatin fr yur rder. Read the infrmatin t the right f the check bx. Then, select the check bx t verify that yur rder is crrect and that yu have read and agree t the terms f yur purchase. Click Submit Order. After yu click Submit Order, yur Custmer Receipt displays. Yur receipt includes any additinal instructins fr yur assessment. Yur receipt will als be ed t yu t the address listed in yur prfile.
