1 LWC BSN Academic Standard fr Admissin, Prgressin and Readmissin Please nte: This infrmatin has been updated and may differ frm what is printed in the LWC nline catalg r print versins. Applicatin Deadlines Admissin t the BSN prgram will ccur in the fall semester. Admissin t LWC des nt guarantee admissin t the BSN prgram. Prspective students may apply t the BSN prgram beginning February 1 f the calendar year fr which admissin is sught. Fr cnsideratin f admissin in the fall semester, the deadline fr submissin f the applicatin and ther required paperwrk t the Nursing Divisin is March 1. In the event the March 1 deadline falls n a weekend, the deadline fr applicatin will be extended t the fllwing Mnday at 5:00 p.m. Crrespndence t applicants regarding admissin status will be sent t the address f recrd submitted t the Nursing Divisin with the admissin applicatin. Applicants are respnsible fr ntifying the Nursing Divisin in writing f any change f address. All required paperwrk must be cmpleted prir t the March 1 deadline t be eligible fr admissin t the BSN prgram in the fall semester. Entrance Criteria s wh are seeking admissin t the BSN prgram must meet the fllwing standards: 1. Admissin t Lindsey Wilsn Cllege. All admissins requirements utlined in the current LWC Cllege catalg apply. Plicy and prcedures are lcated in the LWC Cllege catalg. 2. Submissin f the cmpleted applicatin t the BSN prgram by March 1 f the calendar year fr which the student is seeking admissin. 3. Cumulative minimum GPA f The verall minimum GPA applies t curse wrk fr which the student has previusly cmpleted and fr which the student is currently enrlled. GPA and curse grades are reviewed fr all BSN applicants at the cmpletin f the semester the applicatin is submitted. 4. Cmpletin f all BSN prgram prerequisite curse wrk with achievement f a minimum grade f C : Human Anatmy & Physilgy I (BIOL 2614) - 4 hurs Principles f Chemistry (CHEM 1104) - 4 hurs Writing Studies I (ENGL 1013) unless waiver requirements are met - 3 hurs Freshman Seminar (FYE 1001) unless waiver requirements are met - 1 hur Medical Cmmunicatin (HLCA 2013) - 3 hurs Functins & Algebra (MATH 1013) unless waiver requirements are met - 3 hurs Principles f Psychlgy (PSYC 1003) - 3 hurs

2 5. Demnstratin f clinical cmpliance by established deadline. Clinical cmpliance requirements are utlined n the LWC Nursing Divisin website and in the LWC BSN Handbk. s may be admitted t the BSN prgram, cntingent upn submissin f clinical cmpliance dcuments and demnstratin f cmpliance by the established deadline. Ratinale fr Clinical Cmpliance: In rder t cmply with clinical requirements f affiliating health care agencies, students wh are admitted t the BSN prgram must btain a criminal backgrund check, drug screening test and demnstrate cmpliance with ALL required clinical requirements. Affiliating agencies may deny the student with a criminal backgrund and students wh fail the drug screening test the right t participate in clinical learning experiences at their facilities. The Kentucky Bard f Nursing (KBN) requires that all criminal cnvictins (misdemeanrs and felnies) be reprted at the time f applicatin fr licensure. The KBN has the pwer t deny a nursing graduate the right t take the licensure exam t an individual with a criminal histry that invlves acts bearing directly n the practice f nursing 6. Returned letter f acceptance with signature t the Nursing Divisin ffice by the designated date. Nn-cmpliance with this requirement will frfeit the seat alltted fr the student. 7. Submissin f fficial transcripts fr all previus cllege curses t the Registrar's Office at Lindsey Wilsn Cllege. Curses must be frm reginally accredited institutins f higher educatin. All BSN prgram required curses (pre-requisite and prgram required curses) must meet direct transfer equivalencies r have prir apprval f the Chair f the Nursing Divisin befre transfer credit is accepted. s must achieve a minimum grade f C in all nursing majr required curses, including all transfer curses. The Nursing Divisin Curse Substitutin frm MUST be cmpleted in rder fr any curse t be cnsidered as a transfer substitutin. All infrmatin n the frm must be cmpleted. This includes but is nt limited t: curse name, curse number, catalg descriptin, syllabi, utline f cntent and skills, electrnic link t institutin catalg, and ther dcumentatin as requested. Acceptance f curse wrk is cntingent upn theretical and clinical cngruence with the curses ffered by LWC Nursing Divisin and the time frame since curse wrk cmpletin. All curse substitutins will have final apprval f the LWC s Registrar s Office. 8. Applicants t the BSN prgram wh dcument English as a secnd language must demnstrate an verall passing standard scre f 83 n the Test f English as a Freign Language (TOEFL ibt). Ratinale: The Natinal Cuncil f State Bards f Nursing (NCSBN) which represents the states and territrial bards f nursing wh regulate nurses in the United States (U.S.) has dcumented sufficient English language prficiency is a crucial aspect f nursing practice in the U.S. NCSBN has develped current and well-dcument English language prficiency standards fr all nurses t practice. These minimum standards reflect the minimum level f English language prficiency necessary fr entry-level nurse t be able t perfrm bth safely and effectively.

3 Transfer Admissin Transfer students seeking admissin t the BSN Prgram must meet all LWC transfer requirements and BSN prgram entrance requirements. s desiring t transfer frm anther accredited nursing prgram shuld cmplete the fllwing: 1. All entrance criteria admissin steps as utlined abve 2. Prir nursing curse wrk will be evaluated n a case by case basis. NURS 2024 and NURS 2013 are the nly curses in the LWC BSN curriculum cnsidered fr transfer acceptance by the Nursing Divisin. If a student wishes t have previus curse wrk, nursing (NURS) curses r prgram required curses evaluated fr transfer acceptance, then the student must initiate a curse substitutin frm with the applicatin prcess. The curse substitutin frm can requested frm the Nursing Divisin Office [email protected]. The Nursing Divisin Curse Substitutin frm MUST be cmpleted in full in rder fr any curse t be cnsidered as a transfer substitutin. This includes but is nt limited t: curse name, curse number, catalg descriptin, syllabi, utline f cntent and skills, electrnic link t institutin catalg, and ther dcumentatin as requested. The letter must be included with the applicatin. Admissin t the LWC BSN prgram will be cntingent upn the availability f seats in the curses at the time f transfer. 4. Demnstratin f clinical cmpliance and skills cmpetence by established deadline. Nte: All students wishing t earn the Bachelr f Science Degree in Nursing must earn at least 50 percent f degree requirements at Lindsey Wilsn Cllege. Academic Standards fr Prgressin Nursing students are subject t the Cllege s plicies pertaining t academic standing. These Cllege plicies can be fund in the LWC Cllege Catalg. In additin, S students admitted t the BSN Prgram are expected t attain the fllwing minimum prgressin standards during the curse f study:

4 BSN Prgram Suspensin student des nt meet prgressin criteria in the curse f study fr the nursing majr t prgress in the prgram. BSN Prgram Dismissal student des nt meet prgressin criteria at a level that cnstitutes dismissal frm the prgram. When students are dismissed frm the prgram, they may prgress at Lindsey Wilsn, but they can n lnger be a nursing majr and cntinue in the nursing prgram. Prgressin Criteria 1. Maintain verall cumulative grade pint average (GPA) f C (2.0). 2. Maintain cumulative grade pint average (GPA) f C (2.0) fr all pre-requisite and nursing prgram required curses. If a student receives a final grade f unsatisfactry in any labratry/clinical cmpnent f a curse, the unsatisfactry cnstitutes failure f the curse. 5. Must make an appintment with nursing advisr t cmplete drp/add frm and adhering t all designated Cllege Catalg plicies and calendar dates. Tw failures (grade belw a C) in any nursingdesignated curses (NURS) will result in dismissal frm the Prgram. Drpping a nursing curse r withdrawing frm the Cllege places the student ut f prgressin sequence in the nursing prgram. Cnsistent with ther nursing prgrams, the grading scale requires students t earn 77% r higher t be awarded a C r better.
