PROGRAM APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY: T be eligible fr admissin, an applicant must hld an academic degree in law frm a freign law schl r a Juris Dctr (J.D.) frm a U.S. law schl. Applicants with an academic degree ther than law wh are licensed t practice in a jurisdictin utside f the United States are als eligible t apply. T be admitted, all nn-native English speakers must have a TOEFL scre f at least 90 OR an IELTS scre f at least 7.0, in additin t meeting ther admissin requirements. The MSU Cllege f Law strngly recmmends that yu use the Law Schl Admissins Cuncil LL.M. Credential Assembly Service (LLM-CAS) t submit yur fficial transcripts and ther dcumentatin. T register, visit The Legal English fr Academic Preparatin (LEAP) The MSU Cllege f Law will cnsider applicants fr cnditinal admissin t the LL.M. prgram if they meet all requirements fr admissin except fr the required level f English prficiency. T be cnsidered fr admissin t the LEAP Prgram, a student must submit a TOEFL r IELTS English test scre and prvide all necessary LL.M. applicatin dcumentatin. The LEAP Prgram shuld take a student between 1-3 years t cmplete, depending upn their English prficiency level when they begin the prgram. The LEAP Prgram has tw parts: Part I is basic and intermediate English as a Secnd Language (ESL) Instructin, and Part II, the Law Institute, includes specifically-designed curse wrk t prepare students fr the LL.M. prgram. Examples f Law Institute curse wrk include Civil Litigatin fr Freign Lawyers, Legal English, Reading Cmprehensin fr Freign Lawyers, and Oral Advcacy. Students are placed int the apprpriate part f the LEAP Prgram after taking the Michigan State University English Language Test, r MSUELT. Students wh test at r belw Level 3 n the test will enrll in LEAP Part I, while students wh test at Level 4 will jin LEAP Part II, r the Law Institute. Students in the LEAP Prgram are expected t maintain the same academic and cnduct standards as students in the LL.M. and J.D. prgrams at the Law Cllege. Students wh d nt maintain these standards will nt be allwed t cntinue in the LEAP prgram r mve t the LL.M. prgram. The same plagiarism and ther cnduct cdes apply t LEAP students as t ther law students. All applicants t the LEAP Prgram will be required t d an infrmal interview in persn, via skype r by phne. Mving frm LEAP int the LL.M. Prgram Admissin t the Law Cllege des nt becme final until a LEAP student successfully cmpletes all levels f the LEAP Prgram, pursuant t Law Cllege academic and ther standards.
